I wonder why all the hardcore keyboard warriors of ThaiVisa are not with the protesters, fighting for democracy? Live free or die trying, right?

I don't think I'm a "keyboard warrior," but having lived in several different countries over the years, my view has always been this:  we're guests in the country.  We may have our own opinions about local politics, but it is not our business to become involved in politics.  The Thai people can decide their own future without foreigners meddling in it.

Why would we risk being arrested and deported from the country.  We are not Thai citizens, and why risk an expulsion.  We can lend our support and our views here until we get removed by other sources.

Not the few folks I talked to, they blame the Government on being heavy handed.  However, it is not stopping the protestors as they are arriving by the car load or truckload and being dropped off on s

People power, good to see. I think Bang Na intersection is now closed by protesters.

Just by way of explanation, the BKK Post had an article Sat. on the transit closures...

They said, originally, the BTS had just planned to close 14 stations on both the Sukhumvit and Silom lines, generally those in the center of town. But the article said the police weren't satisfied with that, and so the BTS ended up closing everything.

As for the subways, the Post said one of the lines was closed at 12:30 pm, and the other followed at 3:30 pm

Haven't seen any mention of what's likely to be the outlook for Sunday... But a repeat of today might not be too unlikely.

Bringing happiness to the people...

I wonder how many thousands got stranded when they arbitrarily shut down their way home, with no notice.

You can blame the protesters. Many do.

If people want change, they have to endure a little inconvenience. They can't have one without the other.

More shutdowns today (Sunday afternoon) on the various rail transit services....

Looks like BTS is saying they've closed 10 misc. stations (potential protester gathering locations) on the Sukhumvit and Silom lines as of 2:30 pm....

10 temporarily closed.
Sukhumvit line is Mochit station, Five station, Ladprao, Phahonyothin station, 24 Asoke station.
Udomsuk Station and Bangna Station
Silom line: Nonsi Channel Station, Surasak Station, Krung Thonburi Station and Wiang Yai Station.
From 14.30 pm. Onwards, Emergency Announcement
...
The company is still open at other stations as usual.

And similar from MRT, they're saying individual station closures:

It makes absolutely no sense to close down Public transport used by all in an attempt to keep those who want to attend a protest location from using the public transport.  As seen yesterday they will always find another way to get to where they need to be.  Safety and Security is the reason they are using.  Are they afraid the MRT and BTS stations will be vandalized as well as the trains themselves?  What foolish folks are running these enterprises, yet they also shut down the Rail link from the airport yesterday as well.

I need to get to CW this week for my Extension of stay, and hope that I am done and back out of the BTS and MRT stations just after lunch, if they decide to close them down again.

My wife relies on BTS for getting to and from work a fair distance from our home. The morning commutes this week should be OK... But the evening commutes home are beginning to look pretty dicey...

Be interesting to see if the authorities will repeat this madness on the regular weekday workdays starting tomorrow when vastly larger numbers of Thais are relying on public transit to get home from work...  It doesn't seem like the protests are going to stop any time soon.

Once again, little to no advance notice to the traveling public. The two rail services' announcements of today's closures were posted to their FB pages AFTER the scheduled time of the closures.

And like yesterday, initial station closures now are expanding during the day -- BTS goes from 10 to now 15 station closures, posted at roughly 4 pm:

The company therefore needs to comply with the order. 5 more temporarily closed and 5 more locations, including 15 Sukhumvit lines including Mochit Station, Five Separations, Ladprao Station, Phahonyothin Station 24, Phayothin Station. Asoke, Udomsuk station, Bangna station, Ari station, Pao station, Phayathai station, and Ratchathewi station.
Silom line: Channel Nonsi Station, Surasak Station, Krung Thonburi Station, and Wiang Yai Station from 16.00 pm. Onwards, Emergency Announcement pelī̀ynpælng Until Transformation Announced
The company is still open at other stations as usual.

Unfortunately, little if anything that they're posting today is in English...  Either they must not think there are any non-Thais left in Thailand, or they don't have EN speaking/writing communications staff on duty on the weekends.

I'm not seeing any announcements today/Sunday on the ARL website or FB or Twitter sites... So perhaps they've escaped closings today...  Their FB and Twitter sites did both have info re their closings on Saturday...

GF just got home from work in Bang Na and yes she had to take a taxi as everything was closed again for BTS and MRT. She asked one of the BTS people she saw and they said probably every day it will be closed in the afternoons until the protestors decide to stop.

did she understood them correctly 555   maybe they said  ""it will be closed in the afternoons until Prayut decides to quit"".

Nation TV showing what looks like at least several thousand protesters blocking Asoke Road just above Sukhumvit Road, near the closed Asoke BTS and Sukhumvit MRT stations.

The topic of the thread here is the ongoing rail line/transit closures and travel impacts.

It would be best to keep political and other off-topic discussions out of this thread, including because political posts are NOT supposed to be made in the "General topics" subforum.

It would be nice if they just stopped messing with the protestors and the normal people and left BTS and MRT open.

Seems like most of the BTS and MRT might remain unscathed today (Monday) for the commute home...

The protest leaders appear to have announced just several outlying protest locations for this evening in BKK -- the Bangkok special prison, Public Health Ministry Station on the MRT Purple Line, and the Kaset intersection.

Nothing from the BTS about Monday closures as of 4:30 pm.  Also nothing from the MRT as of the same time, despite the listing of one of their stations as a protest area.
