Sounds like your government is not completely sold out to Big Pharma, the FDA, and the industry. In America, mine sold out long ago. Same with prescription drugs. Some of the highest prices in the world. My diabetic friend pays over $300 a month for his insulin. Zero integrity, when it comes to the treatment of the public. The quality of life is declining in America in a dramatic way, and it has been for a very long time now. This is just one element. Only those who live there, will argue with that premise. There is an element of being within the bubble, that creates a rather blinkered mentality.

Funny thing, the conservative element in Australia is forever trying to white-ant our medical system. It has had some painful reminders from voters not to mess with it.

Your diabetic friend would pay $6.60 for a month's worth of insulin.

Then again, we do not have an Electoral College system.

Just came across this interview though.... and the main point that i subscribe to is the total decline of usa.     i ran away eons ago,  but somehow the "greatest country on earth"  fantasy just keeps rolling along,  with the printing presses at warp speed.    Will it ever come off the tracks?

My tenants moved out giving me a week notice and I'm going to have to spend 1500 painting and cleaning. Plus agent is asking 1 month rent (plus HST lol) to find a tenant who can simply not pay rent and by law I can not kick them out even if I want to move into my own place. 

 

So far I'm about 70 percent wanting to go back, sell while I'm still ahead and buy something nice in a cheap province of alberta.

how long has it been since you been back?  I would think heading back, spend some time, then make the decision.  Sometimes going home isn't what you remember it, things change rapidly today...

It's a good time to sell out of Toronto. It's a sellers market, you'll get a very good price for your place. Consider moving to London, or even Windsor, you'll get a similar property for about 1/3 to 1/2 the price that you get for your Toronto property.  Toronto is just a 2 hour drive to London, 4 hours to Windsor. AHA..... now i hear ya !   I sold my rentals in the states longggg ago .  Just too hard to deal with the BS,  especially when not on the scene.   And yes,  the laws favoring deadbeat renters suck. 

 

My daughter lives about an hour and half east of Toronto,  so i have some idea about values, etc.

(rising ! )   Crazy, it seems.   They would like to sell and move somewhere cheaper as well........ but it is COLDER in those places.   Alberta prices are down , right?    due to oil being in the sheets. 

But not so nice for living,  eh ?    West coast is nicest..... but not cheap.  

 

Tough decisions all around,  and now i have a better idea of what you face.    good luck

Well Sir, Through my federal job I was able to keep my Blue Cross/Blue Shield Insurance into retirement at something like $230./mo with a $1000. deductible. In 2016 I had a foot infection with a 2 week stay in hospital costing $170,000. And it's good here in Thailand as well.

It's part of my retirement package, do the time and you're rewarded. Most folks don't want to do the time they just want the rewards.

You just don't get it. You were a government employee, lifetime guarantee of a job unless you did something really stupid. The private employment sector is not so forgiving, make a mistake and you are out on your ear, and the health insurance the employer was paying for stops. Or if you are a small business owner, you pay for your own health insurance. Not to mention the millions of casuals who get no insurance at all.

Did you actually make a meaningful contribution to the well-being of Americans, or were you just pushing paper around? Is that what you mean by doing the time?

Good luck. There's no such thing as a right decision in old age. We should have made those a long time ago, and mostly didn't.
