This is usually covered by the airline's Unaccompanied Minor rules. Some Airlines will require the parent check the child in at the main desk. Please see the bolded text below of the Nok Air webpage.

Nok Air Traveling with Infant or Child

Traveling with Infant or Child

  • We reserve the right not to carry infant of less than fourteen (14) days old.
  • Infant aged between 14 days and less than 2 years old on the travel date may fly at the prevailing administration fee per sector provided he/she sits on an adult's lap. Each adult passenger can travel with only one infant.
  • Child aged between 2 and less than 12 years old on the travel date will not be accepted for carriage unless they are accompanied by a person of at least 16 years of age. Passenger aged between 12 and less than 16 years old on the travel date can travel alone but cannot accompany child aged under 12 years old.
  • Passenger aged above 16 years old on the travel date can accompany children ages under 12 years old.

What travel documents do I need for infant and child?

  • Infant aged under 7 years old requires the original birth certificate or passport.
  • Child aged between 7 - 15 years old requires the original birth certificate or ID card or passport.
  • Passenger aged above 15 years old requires ID card or passport.

What is the youngest age a minor can fly alone, but accompanied by a guardian, I presume through the check-in process and to the boarding gate? And collected by a guardian upon arrival.

A guardian cannot go beyond passenger search/screening area if they are not flying, certainly not to the boarding gate which is deemed air-side and off limits.

You can call the airline and arrange that an un-accompanied minor is traveling and they will give you the details, they may provide a handling agent to escort them to the gate and arrange one at the destination to be picked up by someone with passport or similar identification which must be pre-arranged.
