Thailand's Harbour Department is pressing ahead with the plan to improve Jomtien beach.

Chief Withaya Yamuang told Manager that the success of the improvements made at Pattaya beach from North to South Pattaya would now come to Jomtien.

They are spending 586 million on sand and other improvements along a 3.5 kilometer stretch.

Work over 900 days is expected to be completed by mid-November 2022.

The sand for the work is coming from the Koh Rang Kawian area 15 kms offshore from Jomtien.

The same sand was used for Pattaya beach.

Studies have shown that erosion is happening at Jomtien and the improvements are part of phases in a 20 year development plan.

Pattaya beach is always being eroded by runoff from the city so where is the big success and until that problem is taken care off finally and permanently it is always going to happen its just a part of nature which is very hard to control .

'The sand for the work is coming from the Koh Rang Kawian area 15 kms offshore from Jomtien.'

and that is exactly where it will end up again in a very short space of time. How stupid to have totally missed that part of childhood when you tried in vain to stop your sand castles get washed into the sea to just form the beach as if they had never been there. I remember building defensive walls out of stones, toys etc and nothing worked.

Their efforts are pointless, expensive and environmentally damaging.
