If I'm arriving back in Thailand on the new ST visa, what options do I have for extending or converting the visa to stay longer than 60 days?

Worst case scenario, would I be able to convert to an Elite Visa? Or does the Elite require exit of the country & re-entry? Are there other options once I'm actually in the country? (edu, etc)

(I've been approved for the Elite but holding off for now on submitting payment unless I really need to)

How old. 50+?

You can obtain 30 day extension to your tourist visa. After that you could obtain the 60 day extensions that are being issued at some io.

Since you entered on tourist visa an agent could obtain a 90 day non o with or without annual extension based on volunteering

I guess my main question is around elite visa; am I able to just become an Elite member inside the country or does it require some kind of exit & re-entry

If you enter with a new single entry tourist visa you could apply for a Thai Elite and have the visa issued by immigration in Bangkok.

Hi. Happy to hear you had success with your ST visa application. I believe your question has been answered above but can you share with us which country you will be travelling from?

The tourist visa ha only just been re introduced with very heavy financial qualifications ie £12,800 in a UK bank for 6 months prior to the application, although some embassys ie Germany are dropping it. The message from the embassy is that they cannot guarantee that the visa can be extended as in normal times due to the Coronavirus situation. My message is to be careful offering this advice as it may not be correct at this time.

The new single entry tourist visa is the same as the original one. The only difference is the new 500k baht in a bank for 6 months requirement to apply for it and the covid 19 insurance.

The special tourist visa (STV) is completely different since it allows a 90 day entry and two 90 day extensions. That one would not be accepted by immigration for a change of visa status and that is stated on the embassy and official consulates websites where it is available.

With respect UJ, these are not normal times. I have been liasing on behalf of a Facebook help group, who advise people on returning to Thailand. I have a direct contact with a lady inside the UK RTE. It cannot be confirmed due to the Coronvirus that the recently reintroduced Tourist Visa can be extended. That is why I advised caution.

Immigration would have to be the ones confirming it not a embassy or consulate. They have nothing to do with extensions that are applied for at immigration.

Is that not I said? The email confirmed that they are not sure, thats why I advised caution.

I believe what @ubonjoe meant is that Immigration and Embassies are different departments.

Regrettably, they're not always "on the same page" ????

I totally agree with that statement. See my replies on this issue. Embassy's are expressing caution about assuming you can extend the visa, that's what I posted. UJ and Dr Jack both pasted statements that the Tourist Visa can 100% be extended, how can they know this? I have just expressed a view that we cannot guarantee that in these Covid times that this will happen as advised by the RTE London.

Does anybody know if a single entry Tourist Visa has been converted into Non-B Visa, with the offer of teaching English and a work permit, within Thailand during lockdown?

Normally you have to leave Thailand to get the Non-B, but all the land borders are closed.
