Analyst says Thailand’s new EV investment incentive is promising

 

   

BANGKOK (NNT) - A UK automotive industry news website has published an article highlighting Thailand as a promising destination for investment in Electric Vehicle (EV) manufacturing facilities, thanks to the country’s new EV investment incentives covering broad categories of electric and hybrid cars.

 

The Government Spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri recently mentioned that a UK based website Just Auto had published an article which included a comment on Thailand’s new investment incentives for electric and hybrid vehicle segments by Bakar Sadik Agwan, a senior automotive consulting analyst at Global Data.

 

Mr Agwan commented that Thailand’s new incentive is a major positive development which could help Thailand emerge as an EV production hub in the near future, while adding that Thailand has been aggressive in developing its EV roadmap, and at present leads the race when compared with other key car building countries in ASEAN, such as Malaysia and Indonesia.

 

The Thai government currently has an ambitious plan to manufacture EVs at the rate of 30 percent of the country’s total vehicle manufacturing output by 2027. The government will also have to pay attention to domestic demand, which will be a deciding factor for investors.

 

The government spokesman said Thailand is on a clear path to maintain its status as ASEAN’s hub for EV manufacturing, with international investors showing their intention to make Thailand their manufacturing base.

 

He said this presents a great opportunity for Thailand, as electric vehicles are expected to account for 60 percent of all vehicle manufacture worldwide in the future.

If those incentives do include batteries from China to be shipped duty free, you can forget it.    Vietnam and Malaysia have their own car brands.  Thailand is totally reliant on the outside world.

A lot of very nice foreign EV's ( incl. 4x4's like the new hummer  ) will come soon . Time Thailand jumps on the train before it leaves ... and time to work on the necessary infrastructure as well ...

 Hydrogen for long distance and heavy trucks , EV for urban and shorter distance use ...

I hope they will assemble and sell Tesla vehicles here soon. I can't wait to drive at full speed down the highway half asleep and with my hands off the wheel, just like everyone else!
