Sophon Cable TV reported that hundreds of mobile food vendors - the sort with sidecars on motorcycles - descended on Jomtien beach road during the long holiday weekend that has just passed.

The media said that they caused inconvenience for tourists and traffic snarls.

Sophon said that in the past the vendors were banned and fined if they showed up but now the authorities were not doing anything about them or issuing fines.

Calls are being made to find an area for them to sell their wares so that the roads are not crowded with traffic.

That's no reason to stop in the middle of the street to sell food, as shown on the second picture, or in the middle of a zebra crossing, as shown in the first picture.

They should just stop somewhere where it doesn't obstruct the traffic.

They do exactly that getting to and from wherever they pitch their carts so why care......

Let them earn money, they've been chased off Buakhao

Universities and schools around the nation could let more of them in. I'm sure the staff and students would like that. More impromptu walking streets filled with lots of different vendors would be convenient if done in the right areas. Plenty of people are bored with the same old food in their areas. Maybe these folks should caravan around the nation creating  block parties and food streets for the locals to enjoy.

As there's no MotoGP in Thailand this year they could do a Honda Wabe sidecar grand Prix up there .. bit of internal tourism , vendors get some dosh , sharp edged sidecars not blocking the roads up .. what's not to like ..

This is an everyday occurrence. Good luck finding beach parking. These stupid sidecars are always blocking the parking spaces.

From what I have seen  that's exactly what they do..ok they are a bit slow moving  so can cause "congestion"

sometimes its no bad thing to  slow down some of the maniac drivers.

On a normal weekday there is ample parking  weekends when the Bangkokians descend it becomes harder to find a spot..over the long weekends very hard to find a parking spot  but they are not taken by these mobile sidecars as they normally don't stay in one spot for very long.

You want them to park not blocking traffic but when they park in the only available space ( zebra crossing totally dangerous for humans in Thailand anyway) during the intensely busy  long weekend they still get stick ????

When a person who expresses a "get over it" attitude, and then experiences it for themselves; causing them an inconvenience or misfortune, their tune often changes.

I drove down Jomtien beach road today.. every beach-side parking spot was occupied. By cars and pick-ups.

Is there a holiday I'm unaware of?

Possibly they are sleeping off the longgggg weekend hangover  ?

This self made motorcycle is even prohibited and will get more and moreif the authority doesn't do something. This type of vehicle is not oficial allowed and not in driving license category.

The usual free-for-all returns.

No doubt the lorries stopping everywhere plus the numerous baht pickups had nothing to do with traffic .  Plus all the road construction.  The mango push cart on Soi baukhao devasted traffic flow ????

Aren't those sidecar things illegal ?

Police should confiscate and crush them.

I hope Thailand has many small food vendors earning a living and providing inexpensive food for hungry people.

(I shoulda been a politician)

Yes, it is a joy to have to wait a further 5 minutes for the lights to do another round because one is held up by a few of these. Often stated these types of vehicles make accidents happen.... particularly with the impatient Bangkok drivers.

Foreigners come to Thailand to enjoy life , if you want to change things to suit you then go back and change your own country . Either do like thais or leave , easier to change your ways than expect thais to tow your mark in their country . Understand thais are struggling to survive and you are a guest in their country . You choose to come here or go ,please be good guest and stop gripping about thais or leave . Simple .

Never seen many Zebras crossing the street there..have you ???

They provide food that's been in the blazing sun for hours and getting covered in fumes / dust ( amongst other things ), no thanks, not for me.

Speed bumps every 30  metres

( real ones ) would slow  everything down.

I was going to use the old uk term 'sleeping policemen' not speed bump, but ????????

But it's OK for convoys of slow-moving speaker vans hired by politicians to influence the coming elections?

Dam tourists causing traffic problems.  ban all holidays.  just joking folks.

They are traps placed to lure tourists, that think they are more than a waste of paint, into a false sense of security when crossing the road.
