Tourism Council: When the pandemic is over Thailand is the first place tourists will visit

I understand the desire for Tourism Council bashing. That is always my first inclination. Truth is, almost every one of us loves Thailand and would dearly love to see it succeed. Someone needs to take these policy makers aside and have a real "come to Jesus" discussion with them so people WILL want to return.

If you can, tip your servers in any capacity possible. These folks are all struggling. Spread a little love around.

I think he is living in cloud cuckoo land. Aside from the restrictions, many people are going to be very broke when this is over and won't be going anywhere for a long while.

  • As soon as any tourist sees a "set of requirements" to be met.....boom, gone, toast.   Tourists want a care free holiday, not an administrative nightmare...idiots.....not a clue.

If you like temples Yangon is a must visit.

Some great restaurants there too, a lot cheaper than Thailand. Kiplings at the Savoy is a personal favourite for this old souse.

Ha.  Yes go there to walk around temples.

A total bore of a place a big nothing compared to Thailand.

But...but...what about Thailand's world champion title as "Hub of Quarantines? Surely they're not going to relinquish that hard-won title without a fight.

Deputy at the council Pradit Watcharadanai was speaking to Daily News outlining the council's vision over the next two years that is called "Champ Thong Thiaw".

This he translated to "Thailand Champion Again Global Expat and Tourism Hub".

Another day, another hub

Thailand, the hub of the hubs

Now we definitely know that tourists won't return for a very long time! The spokesman from this office think that a speech a day is the same as an apple a day.

The ridiculous regulations in place to come to Thailand will ensure that tourism will drop substantially for years to come. The loss of restaurants and tourism facilities in tourist resorts will take years to recover. Many people living overseas have lost their jobs or been furloughed. They just don't have the money for long haul holidays.

Now come on, who's been winding him up? Surely he didn't come up with this on his own?

So you seem to know the personal financial situation and business of every person in the entire world?

Vax plus a Baht at 15% lower than it is now would be very encouraging....and get rid of all the Hoops; otherwise it's curtains for several years to come.

I want to go to Paris.

Its nearly time to practice for your mission to Mars in Thailand.  Im sure that will bring in the tourists.image.png.7b3efd341e90bbbf02a1a3d76e8b4a17.pngimage.png.d5c60feaf444dd11dfd542ea5a11f2ae.png

Well apart from spouting baseless speculation , his use of the phrase ' champion of tourism ' is simply a fabrication !

As of last year Thailand was 8th in the list of international tourist destinations ( just ahead of the chilly UK) , the likes of France , Spain and the USA had more than twice the number of visitors.

Oh really? Cambodia will be high on the list not only for the Angkor Wat Complex but with hundreds of thousands of Chinese gambling in the many casinos.

Yes they will . Then walking through the airport to check in for their connecting flight to Vietnam etc !

Someone wake these people up and tell them they ain’t the destination of choice anymore and haven’t been for a few years ! Utterly deluded about the outside world as ignorance is bliss to them ! ????

honestly guys, is there anybody in this current government with 5 cents of a brain..... with so much garbage/bs out of their daily briefings/posts/proposals/etc...  one has to doubt

Cannot see it myself .

20 years ago , back in the UK , Thailand seemed to be very popular .

Back-packers had discovered Thailand 30 years ago , Ko Samui , a deserted tropical island where you can get a hut on the beach for a $ per night .

Great cheap food and friendly people .

Large hotels went up to cater for people who wanted a holiday visit to Thailand .

You could stay for as long as you like on tourist visas .

Television holiday programes were all about going to Thailand , Thai restaurants were opening up all over the UK .

Soon as you mentored Thailand , the typical reply would wither be "I went there last year and it was wonderful " or "I want to go there next year" , these days the typical response is " I went to Phukett , the people were rude , the beach was filthy , the taxis were expensive .

I cannot envisage Thailand getting back to the previous tourist numbers

Further evidence that people without a brain that is capable of understanding even basic reality, should probably keep their mouth shut.

And out of prominent positions.

Delusional he is.  I believe that people will start to find their own countries tourist destinations and stay closer to home for a while. There will be some international travelers but they will be the ones who can pick and choose where they want to go.  Tourism for Thailand will be like it was back in the 90's I am afraid, but will in the long run make it better for visitors as there will be less pressure from the touts and scam artists as the people coming will be more aware of the games played.

Thailand as it was back in the 90's sounds good to me.
