Crime Fifteen Insurgents Attack Security Post in Narathiwat: Two Officers Injured in Dawn Clash

A group of around 15 insurgents launched a violent pre-dawn assault on a security outpost in Sukhirin District, Narathiwat Province, on the morning of 28 June, injuring two officers in a gun battle that lasted approximately 15 minutes. The incident occurred at approximately 05:50, at the Geer Subdistrict Protection Unit (Chor Khor Tor Geer). According to official reports, the attackers threw pipe bombs and opened fire on the compound in a coordinated attempt to overrun the base. Security personnel stationed at the post immediately returned fire and took defensive positions in accordance with emergency protocols. The intense firefight forced the insurgents to retreat into the surrounding terrain. Following the clash, two officers were confirmed injured. Sergeant Major First Class Apisit Srianurak sustained a gunshot wound to the back, while Volunteer Defence Officer Waehamram Waesamae was shot in the head. Both were promptly transported to Sukhirin Hospital for medical treatment. A subsequent sweep of the area revealed an unexploded pipe bomb, which was secured pending further investigation by explosive ordnance disposal teams. The motive for the attack is believed to be part of ongoing insurgent activities in the deep south, where violent incidents targeting state officials and infrastructure continue to flare sporadically. Authorities are currently pursuing leads to track down the perpetrators and are coordinating with intelligence units to prevent further incidents. Accident Rayong Hit-and-Run Kills 15-Year-Old Student, One Critically Injured

Police are investigating whether the crash was accidental or intentional. The incident occurred around 02:00, in Village 4 of Tapong Subdistrict, Mueang District. CCTV footage captured the horrifying moment when two teenage boys, both Mathayom 3 students from a local school, were riding on a motorcycle when a speeding car rammed into them from behind in the middle of a small village road. The impact sent both the students and their motorcycle flying. One of the boys, identified as Mr. Rang, died at the scene. His friend sustained critical injuries and was rushed to hospital by emergency services after local residents, woken by the crash, raised the alarm. A witness said the vehicle involved, of unknown make, model or registration, fled the scene at high speed, heading towards an intersection connecting the route from Mae Ramphueng Beach to Sukhumvit Road. Police investigators found the students’ motorcycle severely damaged, with its licence plate suspiciously obscured using black electrical tape, an unusual detail that has drawn further attention from investigators. Preliminary information suggests that the two boys had ridden from the direction of the 7th Infantry Battalion and had turned left into the village where the crash occurred. CCTV footage shows the car appearing to follow closely before violently colliding with the motorcycle. Police are now working to identify the fleeing vehicle using the security footage and other evidence collected at the scene. Investigators plan to question the surviving student once his condition stabilises, in order to determine whether the collision was a case of reckless driving or a targeted attack. Picture courtesy of Amarin The Cambodian Navy has expelled a Thai oil tanker from its territorial waters near Sihanoukville in what appears to be a symbolic enforcement of the country’s recent ban on fuel imports from Thailand, despite earlier reports suggesting quiet continuation of cross-border shipments. According to a report from Cambodia’s Fresh News agency on 28 June, the incident involved the Thai tanker Chetthabodi 6, which was intercepted and ordered to leave Cambodian waters after being found operating illegally off the coast of Preah Sihanouk province. The expulsion follows public allegations on social media that Cambodia had continued to import fuel from Thailand discreetly, despite the government’s declared embargo. In response, the Cambodian Navy has now been instructed to strictly enforce the ban, including intercepting any illegal shipments of not only oil and gas but also Thai fruits and vegetables entering by sea. This move comes after the Cambodian government, led by Prime Minister Hun Manet and former Prime Minister Hun Sen, announced on 22 June a complete suspension of fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) imports from Thailand. Officials claimed that the country has sufficient capacity to source fuel from alternative suppliers and to meet domestic demand, whether for a month or indefinitely. Cambodia’s Minister of Mines and Energy reiterated in a 27 June press briefing that no exceptions would be made to the ban. “There will be no authorised importation of Thai oil or gas under any circumstance,” the minister stated. “Cambodia possesses the capability to secure and supply energy independently.” The incident involving Chetthabodi 6 appears to be a calculated show of enforcement amid scrutiny over the policy’s implementation.
