The Ministry of Education is considering taking legal action against the Bad Student website and its administrator for identifying teachers and schools which prohibited students in casual clothing from attending classes on the first day of the second semester on Tuesday.

In an interview with the Inside Thailand TV programme this morning (Wednesday), Education Minister Nataphol Teepsuwan said that such disclosures may violate the right for privacy of the teaching staff and their schools.

On its website, the Bad Student group is encouraging students, who were denied entry to their schools or whose parents were summoned to meet with school administrators for their child’s defiance of the dress code, to report the names of the schools and teachers involved. The Bad Student group has threatened to expose them on their webpage to denounce or shame them.

Sheep should not make noises. Standard Thai operating procedures!

What a mature response from the MOE.

First, Education Minister Nataphol Teepsuwan should be wearing a necktie and suit since he is the leader. He consistently fails to show the level of respect to his position so he should be fired from it. Second, there should be an investigation into his assets, his family's assets and any extended family's assets. Finally. let's also see his transcripts and his work for his higher degrees.

May be some teachers violate the rights of children, as well.

Clearly the Ministry of Education‘s (MOE) major concern is not education…but control.

Their objective is to create a submissive, compliant, and obedient population….who will do as they’re told and not question their ‘superiors’ And the MOE is operating straight out of the Junta playbook of pursuing objectives through threats and intimidation.

But suing a bunch of students? If they don’t want to be seen as foolish…they shouldn’t make a habit of doing so many foolish things.

Just as the plonkers try to stop ordinary 'plebs' voicing their opinion - or if that fails just ignoring them.

Education Minister and wife in 2014. Bangkok Shutdown protests.

Do as I say.

Be nice if he had a background in Education.

I like how all the students are wearing masks and this putz is not.

Thretening students speaking out against assault, exercising their rights of free speech and assembly, with the Thai "legal" system is rich.

But he's holding it in his hand! This is statistically just as effective as wearing it on your chin...

With a late night dash for the airport...

You wouldn't want to get left behind, not with all those fancy lampposts along that route!

It is a standard Thai response to want to sue anybody that upsets them or tells the truth ! Would take about 10 years to go to court !

Patongo, it will end when the coffers run dry and with no tourists it will vome,

It appears that, thankfully, the government is finally failing in its mission. Which has been to keep the kids too dumbed down to think for themselves.

wearing Nike sneakers and designer jeans is a sign that "kids are thinking for themselves? Since when are schools fashion shows?

one of the origins and reasons of school uniforms in Thailand is that children from poor families are not send to school by their parents in old ragged down clothes, but properly dressed, and no distinction between poor children and regular children.

Tossing away the dress code wont make kids "smarter", thats just dumb and anti Thai sentiment. Also, most Thai kids dont mind and even like to wear their school clothes. It never was and never is a real problem.

Wearing sneakers and fancy clothes in the usa  doesnt prevent illiteracy amongst students, doesnt prevent school bullying, doesnt prevent school shootings.

Another finge group trying to get its 5 minutes of fame. Just uphold tge rules; no school clothes no entry.

I was thinking of the wider context, such as wanting to rid the country of dinosaurs. As for the clothing rules, like most of the thinking from the dinosaurs it belongs in the past as the overwhelming number of parents can afford a few hundred baht to clothe their kid properly, which is what it costs. And as for them loving their uniform, a nephew currently living with us can't wait to change his clothes the minute he returns from school.  The dress code, like uniform hairstyles, is all about control, taught and imposed at a young and impressionable age. Nothing more.

And this isn't about what happens in the USA, by the way. Nothing at all.

This old trope...

Look, everyone already knows where they sit on the Thai social pyramid. Clothing and footwear make no difference. Then add in all the "optional" uniforms (scout, sport, cheer, army) and you've got distinctions and extra costs. Uniforms are enforced here as a means to subjugate the students, and get them used to following orders, and god forbid, never thinking independently or questioning the status quo.

Keeping somchahi dumbed down and on the farm is a feature of the Thai education system, not a bug. That they spend so much per student, with scant results, leads me to beleive that someone is skimming more than their 15% allowed.

FWIW, the Minister of Education went to prep school and university in the U.S.

Think I can safely predict that the next action the clowns will announce is that all students not complying will soon start to have their grades downgraded

How old are these 'kids' that everyonne talks about so smugly?

If they havent reached the age of majority they should be left alone.

I didn't think that teacher's were allowed to downgrade results, straight A's all the way no matter what ???????????????? ????
