Flash floods and water runoffs in Nakhon Si Thammarat province since earlier this week have left nine people dead.

Twenty-three districts, 145 subdistricts and 1,037 villages have been affected as of Thursday, provincial governor Kraisorn Wisitwong said.

“The province has dispatched officials to provide assistance to affected people such as giving food and drinking water, evacuating locals to safe areas, and estimating the damage to public and private properties,” he said.

“Military officials are installing a temporary steel bridge since Wednesday to replace the Wat Wang Sai bridge at Kamlon subdistrict, Lanska district, which has been damaged by the flood.”

With the 80-metre-long bridge connecting Kamlon to other subdistricts being damaged, more than 3,000 villagers have to use an alternate route which is more than 5km away.

Colonel Yutthanam Muang-Ngam, commander of the 15th Infantry Division, added that his division had been working with the local administration office in installing the temporary bridge, as well as providing transport for local people in case of emergency while the installation work is in progress.
