Doing visa runs is already a nuissance, and expensive, so most of us just head for the cheapest, quickest alternative.

I hear you can get a double entry visa in Bali.

But it's also rumoured that one needs to actually apply for this visa.

That and the hitch that you have to have fifty dollars on hand for an onward air ticket make the visa almost impossible to obtain in reality.

kumming china is super easy and did not require onward ticket. Kumming which is the "city of eternal spring" and know for its nice weather is in south west chinese province of Yunnan and close to many interesting places to visit. Lots cheaper than visiting HK, Shianghai etc.

Supposedly AirAsia is adding a BKK to Kumming route in the next few months.

Vietnam both HCMC and Hanoi will require onward tickets but otherwise helpful and not very crowded.

Surely you could head down to an Internet cafe and purchase an e-ticket from AirAsia. Are you living in the dark ages?

well in his defense i tried to do that in bali but the internet was pathetic there and i couldn't get the site to load long enough to purchase anything...

Girlx, in another reply you stated you didn't have sufficient credit on your card to purchase a ticket. :o

cool, thanks! what about nepal? anyone?

A couple of years ago I got a single-entry 3 months B in Kathmandu with a supporting letter from an American company. Had to talk to the consul, she was reluctant to give it out as I did not have a thai company backing me (I originally asked for a 1-year). She was firm but nice and eventually gave me the single entry.

Not sure about tourist visas but my impression was that is it not hard to get if your a westerner. The requirements for Nepalese were strict (two application forms, letters of support, return ticket) but when I went to pick up my applicaion form, the guy handing them out said I only needed one as I was from the US and then they did not ask for a return ticket (even though I bought one).

Gulf Air (Economy class)

Bangkok-Kathmandu (return)

$2461 per person

:o

Can no doubt find cheaper flights, but at 85,000 baht for airfare alone per trip, that makes for an expensive tourist-visa run compared to Penang.

it ended up being a combination of both but thanks for nitpicking! :o

geez! i know that's wrong because i came back from kathmandu last time for very cheap, maybe around 8000 baht or so... 85,000b is more than i would pay to go to NY!!!

It's a reasonable comment, far from nitpicking.

You stated that you went to Bali specifically on a visa run.

You didn't apply.

You stated that you could get a double-entry TV from Bali if you did apply.

When asked why you didn't, you stated that you couldn't purchase an onward ticket due to insufficient credit on your card.

Then you made a comment that the poor Internet service in Bali was the reason why you couldn't purchase a ticket.

I'll to say that your story does not sound believable.

If double entry tourist visas are indeed available in Bali, I would definitely consider travelling there for my next visa run. This is why I appear to be "nitpicking". I really need to be certain that your information is accurate.

oh god you are a rare one.

i did apply. they said i needed a return ticket to be granted the visa. i went to try to order one on the internet, internet didn't work. went to a travel agent and tried to buy one, didn't have money on the card i had with me.

happy now?

don't believe me call and ask them yourself.

JR Texas: Incredible.......the Thai government is making it increasingly difficult and in some cases impossible to get a tourist visa. The ship is sinking fast..........quick........drill more holes in the bottom of the boat! :o

You can apply for a tourist visa anywhere there's a Thai embassy or consulate...... Singapore is fine, and i haven't ever got one at the others but would be amazed if there's no embassy in Hong Kong or Vietnam - google for thai embassies and you'll find a list for yourself.

You can get multi entry (so i'm told by work colleagues here) in Brunei (!) - which would suit you if you're teetotal.

Can personally confirm they are also available at the Thai Consulate in Baku, Azerbaijan which is possibly exotic enough for you (Azal airlines are ok by the way). In Baku you have to apply thru a travel agent (!), oh look there's one just down the corridor...... and they may ask to see various bits of stuff presumably to stop any old Azeri riff raff from flying over - eg onward flight ticket (to which you reply you'll get it in Bangkok :D ), Hotel booking etc etc, copies of bank statements :D - basically showing a Visa card seemed to prove lack of vagrancy status sufficiently. Oh, it'll take a couple of days - unless you tell them you're leaving that night, in which case you can jump the non existant queue and get it later in the afternoon :o

I wonder how seedy Baku is, or whether the Internet works there...?

If I were to choose... I'd go with

Thai Airways has direct flights to Kathmandu. A quick online query on the Thai Airways website came up with economy flights around 20,000 baht and you could probably do better with an agent. Interesting visa run if you want to combine with a holiday in Nepal. Himilayas are nice.

I just got back from Bali today. I did get a double entry tourist visa, 25 USD for each one, so total $50. They are requesting airline tickets, however I did not have one. I have gotten double entry two other times over the last 3 years. I suggest you do have a ticket to show them though as I only got passed this requirement because they have seen a decent amount of documentation over the years about my financial situation/living situation in Thailand. I don't have the idea they will let this slide for me again or that they generally do. (And I had to have some different documents faxed to them to show that I am still contributing to the economy here rather significantly ... I think they just needed a reason to bend the rule for me ... and this did not include any "gifts" or tea money to anyone.)

They have always been helpful to me, however every time I go the rules have changed from the last time. They do not have a website in order to research this before going.

It is a nice vacation and not expensive for rooms. I make it a yearly, or more often, vacation place. I have been 4 times and always enjoy it.

But I'm pretty sure sriracha john's photo had the Thai consulate in it towards the back and off to the left. :o

i do, it's about halfway down the page on this thread.

MTW i did get the feeling from the officer that if i pushed him harder i could have gotten the visa anyway, but i wasn't really too bothered and i had left all my income info (contracts etc.) in the hotel room. he was the nicest consulate officer i have ever met. congrats on your visa anyway!

I am off to Columbo to watch the England cricket and I want to get a tourist visa from there. I have read through and I couldn't find any stories about it so I would be interested if someone could give me some information.
