Chonburi temple skywalk: New "landmark" opens to the public

What has been described as a landmark for the province of Chonburi on Thailand's eastern seaboard has opened.

It is the 50 meter long glass skywalk, part of a 226 meter walkway 25 meters above the ground between a hill and a Buddhist monument on 15 rai of land at the temple of Wat Khao Tabaek in Si Racha district.

77kaoded said there were lots of tourists on the first day of opening on Saturday.

The abbot said it was perfectly safe. The glass is 50mm thick and each square meter can take a weight of 1,200 kilograms.

A limit of 100 people a time can go on it for 30 minutes.

Temples or Disney type theme parks ,most of them

have a draw that has not anything remotely to do with

Buddhism,   Buddha must be spinning in Nirvana.

Walk on it, if you trust Thai builders...

I hope they didn't order the glass from China.  There was a case in the U.S. awhile back where a high apartment building used thick tempered glass panels on the balconies.  They started shattering spontaneously.  Turns out there were minuscule  inclusions of impurities that caused it. Apparently it happens elsewhere, too.

Saw this snippet:  "...It is suspected glass balustrades shatter when there is excessive nickel sulphide present in the glass and it is exposed to heat, wind or other stresses. Too much nickel sulphide is often found in glass purchased cheaply from overseas..."

1,200 kg per sqm is not much. A group hug of few people and they are gone.

soon to become another "white elephant" no doubt.........

Looks like any other sad and underwhelming Thai tourist attraction...
