BANGKOK (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam has asked for the participation of all sides in addressing harmful and abusive media content in Thai society, while promoting media literacy among the Thai public.

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu, a Thai Media Fund board director, this week delivered special remarks on public participation and the development of a safe and creative media, in which he said the Thai Media Fund has over the past five years been working to encourage participation by all sides, in addressing unsafe and abusive media content which affects the livelihood of the people.

He highlighted the issue of fake news or abusive content, that has intensified thanks to communication technology, where mass media nowadays can convey its content to massive audiences quickly, making the consequences of fake news and hateful content more pronounced, and able to cause significant damage to individual persons, society, politics, and the economy.

To help promote responsibility among members of the media, the government has assigned the Thai Media Fund to serve as a fund to promote safe and good media content. The fund, along with its actions under the 2020-2022 safe and creative media development plan, requires the cooperation of various networks and partners due to the fund’s limited budget.

The action plan, which is Thailand’s first media-specific action plan, plans to encourage the production of content that meets the needs of different audience groups in order to reduce inequality and ease the comprehension gap between people of older and newer generations, as well as raising awareness of media literacy among the public.

The Thai Media Fund has been holding nationwide forums to gather public input from members of the media across the country, drawing on their expertise and suggestions related to social media usage, which is a significant issue in Thailand as Thai people are known to spend up to 10 hours a day looking at their smartphone screens.

Because of concerns about the impact of social media, the Thai Media Fund will next year give more support to the promotion of social media literacy.

Quick learner is Wizz' even if his demeanor suggests otherwise sometimes ..

And there is always , always a risk that Gov' talking heads come across as a bit hypocritical addressing this issue when they use it thereselves to extend or promote their own agenda ..

the Genie escaped the bottle yrs ago in this respect anyway now with the only way forward in the eyes of some to try and prohibit or ban some zones of the internetty world ..

Somewhat hypocritical given the Army/Government's recent Twitter campaign of dis-information ....

When you have politically subjective judiciary and military propaganda machine running at full speed, who do you believe, Wissanu?   It is the same old tired tail so the army can hold on to power:   "the consequences of fake news and hateful content more pronounced, and able to cause significant damage to individual persons, society, politics, and the economy."   The current military government which took power in a coup would like to tell you what is fake.  ????
