IEAT governor Somchint Pilouk

The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) is partnering up with state-run TOT to install 5G broadband technology system in 14 industrial estates under its management nationwide, IEAT governor Somchint Pilouk said.

The project is expected to be ready in three years. The first phase will focus on industrial estates in the Eastern Economic Corridor.

The IEAT and TOT will workout details of the project and how much the 5G system rollout will cost in each estate. IEAT has adopted many technological systems to enhance business operations in its estates.

Assuming they are talking about mobile 5G, then who ever actually uses the services of TOT?

AIS, TRUE and DTAC already have 5G. Can't see the reason for TOT offering mobile services. Never seen any TOT sim cards on sale anywhere either. Even if it's to use IOT (Internet of Things) such as remote monitoring of equipment etc. then they could do that today with current operators and not wait 3 years.

I would have thought that all the companies in these industrial estates would have FTTH (Fibre to The Home) - as in all the way to the router?

The Wi-Fi from this would surely be fast enough to cover work usage.

Not quite sure how much faster 5G is than Wi-Fi using Fibre, there seems to be a lot of discussion about it.
