which - if so - did not lead to a noticable increase in severe symptoms and deaths

only the numbers of symptomfree infected people would have risen to the sky

how wud u know if they r infected when they did nt do an rt pcr. in my country most people are home quarantined and becoming virus free in a  10 days time or so,. in case they have any issue like breathing problem, high fever etc they go to a hospital..

Looks like mass testing is needed again in Chiang Mai, Bangkok now, Samut Prakan, and Ayutthaya.  But Khon Kaen and Korat have already told people that may have been in Samut Sakhon beginning Dec 1st to report for testing and quarantine.

Here in my little province of Quebec/Canada we are 8M and we do 35k tests A DAY.  10k tests for such a big population is.. ridiculous!

It's not 10,000 tests, they are doing close to 40,000.  Read the Bangkok Post.

Thailand has been doing testing for months.  One reason they found these cases.

Congrats to Thailand for the fantastic job they've done.  I doubt any of us here would want to go home to our countries and deal with the mess there.

Chicken shows up at hospital.

"Quick, look for  more eggs!"

If no one has symptoms or shows up at hospital there is no need to test the entire population.

But when people were going to hospitals to try and get tested they were told to go to Bangkok as they did not have any test kits. So how exactly do the doctors In that hospital know if you have Covid regardless of being symptomatic or asymptomatic. The other side of the coin is hospitals that did have test kits were charging between 8,000 and 13,000 baht for a test! It’s eventually going to come out either way somewhere down the line which one it was.

This was back in June, so they are doing testing.  And can now do 100,000 tests a month.

It's easy to not have cases when you don't test people.

You must be living under a rock.  They have been testing... .all returnees.. no leak into communities... also testing prisons and all going into them.. also hospital workers.. anyone they catch coming over the border illegally .. now rolling out tests for over 10,000 very quickly..   They quickly got the outbreak in Chiang Mai/Chiang Rai under control very quickly with testing.. Also worth reading:

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand plans to test more than 10,000 people after a record daily surge in coronavirus cases to over 500, most of which were among migrant workers linked to a shrimp market near the capital, an official said on Sunday.

What will they test with the toy star wars guns .

instead of 'plans to test', given incompetence, corruption and lying politicians here, give me 'has tested'

...let's face it..Thais like to 'dress up' strut about acting important..the bulk of these workers have no real idea of the practicalities involved with mass testing. Doctors, Nurses, Scientists and those other medically informed folk do; however they really need to get their act together with this. The gate is wide open and the horse has bolted..time to repair the fences (borders) and tighten up the whole illegal entry points..and hey, you may even see a reduction in the illegal human trafficking and drug movement.

And look at worldometer. What's the number of cases here?  Thailand has done a great job with the virus.  Impossible to argue with that.

Your view of Thailand is different than what I have seen. In March, I discussed these issues with a few doctors and medical staff. Thai people do not need to pay for testing. When a person goes to a hospital they are screened for symptoms. A doctor will make a decision if the person needs testing. If the doctor orders a test, they call a national tracking center for a tracking number. Then they swab and send the sample to central laboratories. Local hospitals do not do testing. Samples are sent to Bangkok. One does not pay when you have been given an authorization code. It is all centralized.

how do you think they found this cluster? reading tea leaves?

They didn't find her, a  person was sick who went to hospital with symptoms...

she was tested there for Covid,

There are infected people in Thailand walking around everyday with the virus not being tested until they have to go to hospital, which is too late.

Deaths??? How would Thailand know how many deaths they've had? They never conduct autopsies on dead people to know what they died of!

BS.  They do this all the time.  Stop with the conspiracy theories.

i would have preferred mandatory quarantine of migrant workers and beefing up border security than chasing chickens mate

If the migrant workers have been here since day one then why would you single them out for mandatory quarantine... everyone in the country would be in the same boat.

The reason this has occurred is easy... 2 options

#1 migrant workers have illegally crossed the border, skipped quarantine and been employed illegally by Thais as documents would be incorrect, ie no entry stamps.

#2 migrant workers have entered legally, got the paperwork stamped by a border agent for a fee to then skip quarantine and go straight to a work-house thus skipping quarantine.

Greed and corruption has come back to bite the Thais in the rear-end.

Som nam na!

Well, i really dont know about what happens there but people over there don't get tested due to fear of stigmatrization, social ostracization, expensive testing, expensive treatment.

spoken with a few poor and marginalized thais and they have no money for all that. they would rather stay at home, eat chilli, rub some tiger balm and hope to become disease free soon

Come on Thailand!  You got Covid-19 under control before, you can do it again!

The funny thing is that even the poor thais never thought it was under control. weird how some foreigner who has no idea how things work in countries like thailand, are so gullible that they actually believe everything the govt says. ????????????????

They can do it again by deporting all those poor migrants in a bus,  publish a report that all locals have recovered. threaten the family that if they say anything in public or social media, they will be punished.

yes they can ????????
