LONDON (Reuters) - Scottish first minister Nicola Sturgeon called on British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to seek an extension to a post-Brexit transition period with the European Union because of the need to tackle a new coronavirus strain.

"It's now imperative that (the) PM seeks an agreement to extend the Brexit transition period. The new COVID strain - and the various implications of it - means we face a profoundly serious situation, and it demands our 100% attention," she said on Twitter.

"It would be unconscionable to compound it with Brexit."

She should be more worried about Scotland and the mismanagement of funds and the other vital points like the rise in drugs and alcohol abuse to name a few.

Scotland is not ready for Brexit, the UK is not ready for Brexit either

Quote

Describing limitations in Britain’s “overall readiness,” the report from the House of Commons’ Brexit select committee said it is “critical” that the government has “robust contingency plans in place to deal with any disruption” when the transition period ends December 31.

That would have been sensible from the very beginning on. But Brexiteers have made it clear that they care more about their blue passports than the well-being of their fellow countrymen.

Yes, because it was all about blue passports.

What would have been sensible, is remainers to accept the outcome of the vote and move forward...Brexit would have been done 2 years ago.

Brexit is done since a year ago. Even before this pandemic started. What would be sensible now is to extend the transition period until the pandemic is over so that the people don’t have to suffer from two economic shocks.

I came up with that one myself. So show a bit more appreciation please.

Well what’s stopping the Brexiteers running the country from getting on with it?

And it would appear that the EU is not ready for Brexit, You would have thought that EU fisherman knowing for the past 4 years that you can't have the same access outside the EU club would have sought out alternative places to fish. France has the largest eez zone in the world.

Nothing. Now.

However, until May was essentially booted out of office for being a traitor and the quisling Remainer Parliament was deluded enough to agree to an election, we were hamstrung. So for 3 of the 4 years the anti Democrats were trying to stop the Democratic process.

That's all changed now, hence the whinging and moaning from The Bitters like yourself.

Definitely: but we have a nationalist-populist government in power, they are locked in their own discourse.

  • The UK has "lost control"
  • The UK was "exploited by the EU"
  • The UK needs to regain control over its own destiny it "at all costs and whatever the consequences"

once you are there, do you really believe £200 billions (and counting) will stop you?

so 50.000 dead bodies won't stop you either...

There is no real limit in what a nationalist-populist government can inflict to its population and economy. We have many examples : Brazil, the USA, Turkey...

And given how much Covid compounds Brexit that would make perfect sense to deal with one crisis at a time... for a normal, clever British government or if the UK had a statesman as a prime minister.

I see Brexiteers blaming others has not changed along with causing others of being ‘traitors’.

Emotive stuff, but meaningless.

This just reads like prolonging a very bad divorce. The separation has happened but we're going to make sure that proceedings  in the court are dragged on and on and on, until a final decree is made.

No, I read the same old tired Brexiteer claims that the predicted failings of their own Brexit is somebody else’s fault and then I respond accordingly.

Yes. It's hard to get a divorce when the prenupt needed for the decree nisi hasn't even been written yet.
