So has any one of you bought a coffee maker (might not be the right word)

You could call it machine or what ever. I did buy one not long ago and I am

very happy with it. The only thing I don't, like the pods are not recyclable.

So if you own one what is your opinion?

I saw some refillable pods on Lazada, might be worth a look

I purchased a Nespresso machine. I was quite happy with the coffee. The problem was not only the expended pods piling up, but the absurd price for the coffee. It was easily three times what I pay now for beans for my new Breville Barista Express. Plus, no pods, just grounds. I love the new machine, and wish I had started with it in the first place. Personally, Nespresso and the like, should only be considered by those making coffee a few times a week. Those like me, pulling 3 to 5 shots per day, or more, should seriously consider a regular espresso machine.

Budget wise, it's a very bad habit, but I get all my coffee from independent coffee shops near home or work. My unreasonable justification: supporting small businesses.

At the end of the month, when looking at my expenditures, I know I need to get a  coffee machine, since it'll save so much money. But it's so hard to give up the coffee shop routine.

50% of the coffe shop routine is based on socialization...we need that as humans...even if it's just being around others..not necessarily talking with them. I can do all of my laptop related work at home...but staying in all day it gets lonely and boring (not to mention...no opportunity to girl watch)...so I usually go out to a cafe with my mini laptop and while away a few hours with some nice hot tea (or cold tea) and some people watching. Helps you stay sane...of course it can get a bit expensive if you start to add snacks...but hey...what's retirement for...to enjoy life or to hermit yourself away ?

Agreed.  It is an essential part of most  days for me and many of my friends. We are not 'bar goers' so the local coffee place is a great substitute for that kind of socialising.

a very important part of the coffee process.

I am lucky in that I go to a wonderful coffee house, that's basically all they sell.
I get to taste new blends for free and comment openly on what I think of them.
Their main business is roasting their own blends and have gone from 9th place to 7th place in Thailand over the past few months.     Beans are from many different countries inc. Africa, Middle East, Latin America and Thailand.
Never busy and generally the same people - they only open Monday to Friday with some people traveling from Khon Kaen.

Very satisfied with this not so expensive coffee machine (krueng cafe). Has lasted for awhile and a great product! I actually am a bit proud of the fact I can drink quality coffee at home whenever;that is even cheaper than going to 7-11 or some cafe all the time.

But of course you'll miss the ambience of 7-11. Not easy to recreate that infernal door chime at home.

I hear you. I got mine in April and it’s the best thing i ever did. My friend supplies all the coffee places in the area + drops me off 2 kgs of quality Arabica (800 bht) Ineed my coffee hit 1st thing + nobody is open at that time..

‘Onwards and upwards ‘ ????

I restarted using Nespresso (restarted from my use back in Switzerland) when they halved their price in Thailand from 40 Baht to 22-24 Baht (depending on taste) and offered recycling for the capsules (I am a recycling person when ever I can). I can listen to my mood and make my own ristretto, espresso, lungo, americano, cappuccino, latte and so on with just one machine and one press of a button. And my first coffee in the morning is a double-lungo at 44 Bath (2 capsules) in my large mug, sitting outside at my pool and watch the world wake up and read my online newspapers.

Looks like my last model
i really hated that you need to do everything except boiling and pouring water into a cup
my newest model are doing everything itself by the push of the button and I only need to add water from time to time
coffee beans and remove coffee mush
