Lockdown looming.

Why are "migrant workers" separated in the Thai government's statistics?

  • Popular Post

Everyone had better hope it remains a local problem.

Don't forget the last lockdown came at a time when the daily numbers were barely getting over one hundred.

Provincial governors were trying to outdo each other on how tough their restrictions could be and to be the swiftest to introduce them.

5 in Bangkok..

Not good the next few weeks should be interesting.

New Year parties and mass inter-provincial travel simply cannot be allowed now surely?

Must be at least a 14 day lockdown imminent.

  • Popular Post

Very nasty number, though somewhat expected given the last two days. The majority of it still being in one place is good, but the fact that the domestic cases are from 8 other provinces as well, is most definitely not good.

I was planning on going to Koh Samed for a long weekend, but now don't think I will, in case I can't get back into Chonburi afterwards.

If there was 20k a month testing in every province not just one, we might begin to get a little insight into the real Covid situation here................ instead of the fantasy world of Thailand being virtually Covid free despite having a population of 70 million and welcoming the Chinese for months as their main source of tourism.

However reality and the associated loss of face doesnt fit well with the priorities of the goons running the show.

Why?  Apart from the localised outbreak in Samut Sakhon they are all people from abroad who are in quarantine!

Best to stay in the Food and Farming/Gardening forums, eating food and making food is much more cheerful

I was thinking of trying to get stranded out on one of the islands,

If we get to another spread and lockdown, I couldn't think of a better place, safe, isolated etc

I thought they were linked to the outbreak in Samut Sakhorn?  Anyway, in the scheme of things it's a very minor outbreak, most (all?) are asymptomatic or only mildly sick, and there have most likely been 100s of unreported cases for months.  Locking down is a complete over-reaction unless numbers reach UK/US levels!

I cannot help but think that a large number of migrants having the virus does not reflect the small number of thais having it. These people eat, go 7/11. go markets and everywhere else. If large numbers of them have it, then I suspect more Thais have it than are being revealed

The lockdown is one of the reasons Thailand contained the virus initially!

Not locking down quick enough was why the US and UK got hammered!

That's an interesting idea.  I was going to book a trip to Chiang Mai, but maybe I'll change that to an island.

better safe then sorry, at the speed the new infections are showing up,  potential lock down could be on the horizon thus potential airport closures and maybe inter provincial travel closures as well, be safe and stay home

When did Thailand lockdown?  There were some travel restrictions and non-essential stores, parks and bars/restaurants closed for a short time, but no one was forced to stay at home.  I live in Bangkok and carried on going to work as normal all through April/May. The only problem was the alcohol ban!

Without a doubt.  Most people are asymptomatic or only have mild symptoms.  I'm sure hundreds, if not thousands, have been infected over the last 9 months, and will continue to be. Even when (if) a vaccine is widespread the virus will continue to mutate and people will continue to be infected.

Not all look at the bottom listing of provinces for tge numbers of domestic cases they have.

Schools were shut, entertainment venues closed, parks shuttered, massage shops shut, hair salon and barbershops were shut down. In essence besides critical jobs it was basically locked down and with a curfew to boot. Many people worked from home.

Yes.  I'd call it a partial lockdown, nothing like what was done in Italy and Spain.  Either way, it's a short-term fix.  The virus won't be going away.

The way I read it was that the domestic cases had all been linked back to the outbreak in Samut Sakhorn.

Time to stop testing...

No need for complete lockdown on 500 odd cases . People are panicking unnecessarily . Sooner or later virus had to spread . You can't keep it out for long unless you totally keep people in homes for 2 years . It's upto individuals how to take precautions.  We arent witnessing any deaths among these cases. Which is a positive thing.

In india we were told to lock country out or else witness 100 million cases by end of January, also we were told the winter time will show a high peak in india  . The opposite happened not only whole country was open and doing their business as usual . Crowded buses and trains . Everything was normal and in winter the curve further went down result is India's active cases havs dropped below 300k .  Point is locking country on mere 500-1000 cases and pressing panic button is not the solution .  You are responsible for your own actions . If you are worried about your health. Take precautions and avoid crowded areas avoid parties . If you think virus is joke . Go and play around in huge crowds and see the result yourself
