And you wonder why Diabetes is on the rise...

It's always been high here compared to Western societies, and they blame us for bringing in "fast foods", a standard food item in Thailand is sweet bread toasted. coated with sweet margarine, sprinkled (or do I mean covered) with sugar and then coated with sweetened condensed milk.

You obviously, and conveniently to add to your post count, mised the point of my post.

Here it is again.

they certainly not gonna stock up on the expensive bread varieties available at Big C extra.

Mate you are so out of touch it's unreal, my Mrs (Thai) just loves the speciality bread made by Big C, we normally have a loaf in the freezer, but she has travelled outside of Thailand so I think she's been spoilt.

My Mrs will be visiting our local supplier for a top up on the top up that she did yesterday, one province has already banned alcohol sales, the others will follow suit or the dinosaurs will ban it, better safe than sorry.

I'm not getting caught out like last time when In Chonburi province they announced at 22.00hrs that with immediate effect a booze ban was in force. No chance of getting a replen.

Most Thais haven't and the bread and associated shelves are always empty within hours of being stocked, I only eat the Farmhouse Brown/wholemeal and unless you are there within minutes of delivery it's try somewhere else, of course that could be due to the limited numbers being stocked compared to the white.

Maybe the one out of touch is you, or do you want to compare your wife who buys the expensive bread with your money, with the 70 million other Thais?

Did they mention condoms and earplugs?

One for before, the other for after...

Wrong they are both for current use, the condoms are obvious the earplugs are so that you don't hear I've got a headache.

Why would you stock up on rubbish?

I noticed yesterday in Big C, same as with the previous lockdown, that all bread was sold out.

Thais don't eat bread, so clearly foreigners in panic mode

Yes Thais eat little bread, but their main food is rice, so they certainly not gonna stock up on the expensive bread varieties available at Big C extra.

They eat the sponge bread

Its you that is out of touch Many Thai people like everyone else if they go to a supermarket and find their favourite bread is sold out most people given a choice of no bread or different bread will choose what ever bread is available.

I always thought  most foreigners make their own bread as that way they can control the ingredients that go into their bread

Talk about digging a bloody hole. AFAIK, there is no "expensive" bread coming out of Big C's bakery ovens. Thai people can splurge 78 baht for a large sourdough or French Ball a lot easier than the impoverished farang pensioner who might be seen grabbing two Big C sandwich loafs for 23 baht on the BOGOF special.

In our house of nine, they go through regular bread just as fast as they go through the fancier, sugary stuff and I am the only farang!

On the list should be toilet paper and paper towels, sanitary wipes, and

flour, sugar, salt, and other ingredients for baking and cooking.  555

just being helpful.  Oh guess a snow shovel or Parka is not needed over there

in the tropics, but we had 25 to 40 cms of snow 2 days ago, so I need a bit of a different

list for my survival equipment to make it through the next while.

Carry on, Hot Thailand

Geezer

Buy flour and yeast to make your own bread.

Edit.

Spare bum gun in case the one you have breaks. ????

Not that is  of  great quality but the first bread sold out in many outlets is the  multi grain  or  wheat/whole meal bread that I have noticed. Thai also have a liking for those pre -made white bread items wrapped in plastic containing an ever  decreasing smear of various  vague fillings. Most supermarkets now have an on-site  bakery that pumps  out bread like items  in quantities that any local non Thai  could never  cope in  consumption.

Thai do  eat bread. Just not the  floury lead brick style preferred by  many Europeans.

A lot of the bread sold at 7/11, BigC and Tesco is sweet compared to bread back home, not a big fan.  Foodland and MaxValue brands are okay.

I cant stand the weird smell of that bread from 7/11 etc. one benefit from that bread you can leave it out on the kitchen top, it never normally goes moldy, rats and ants won't eat eat. Luckily i have a real bakery shop where i can buy real bread. I still have *lockdown food* i brought in March, pasta, and a tin of luncheon meat that I hope I never have to eat.
