PHUKET: The annual Light Up Phuket tsunami memorial event at Loma Park in Patong will not be held this year due to concerns over COVID-19, Patong Mayor Chalermluck Kebsup confirmed late this afternoon (Dec 26).

 

“It would be better to stay safe in this time,” she told The Phuket News today.

 

Last year, hundreds of tourists and local residents joined the annual Light Up Phuket tsunami memorial event at Loma Park in Patong on the night of Dec 26 to attend multi-faith ceremonies and a minute’s silence before placing flowers and candles in the sand to remember the thousands who lost their lives to the 2004 Asian Tsunami.

Or those of us who had friends living there and watched in horror from afar. 

That time we were very lucky, I owns a powerboat, and make the plan to sailing from the Boat Lagoon to the PiPi islands, I didn't have much experience with the boat, and after strong current south of Ko Yao Yai, we make the decission to go to the Pang Nga bay, we go many times before.

The next day we go back to Puket and drove to Patong and saw the disaster......

This was Nai Harn beach about 10 minutes after the wave hit the beach
