The "I'm all right Jack" farangs that were so common around here months back now have butt cheeks clenched so tightly you couldn't drive a toothpick between them with a sledgehammer.  They know they are going to be in for a world of hurt for a month or 6 of lockdown depending on how bad it gets.

  • Since Thailand hospitalizes all cases, even asymptomatic ones, then umber of hospitalized cases does not have same meaning here that it does elsewhere.

imagine if they would DARE to test 10.000+ people per day, what the result would be   I am sure most of us already are positive after 10 months of magical no new cases voodoo

Oh brother, here we go, more news that may soon be refuted as just a good faith effort to ensure he did not get the virus and pass it one.  As The health minister shouldn't he have been protecting him

The health minister is doing exactly what he should.

He was in close proximity to someone who tested positive, so he was quickly tested and even though the first test is negative, he is doing the right thing by self isolating until the second test confirms it. Can’t ask for much more than that.

If people in the USA did the same, you guys wouldn’t have the same problem.

Still comparing countries, which gets a little monotonous.  It also seems that true sarcasm is lost on you.  Take care and enjoy the week.

Unfortunately there will be someone equally as qualified as Anutin to step into the breach with more words of great wisdom ????

Should be lockdown now.

Allowing New Year celebrations to go ahead will likely mean a massive rise in cases in early and mid January.

Prepare for Lockdown V2 it would seem is very likely mid to late Jan.

A curfew will be necessary to help with the re-start of the students protests in January but officially to fight against covid

Veerasak Vichitsangsri

Samut Sakhon governor Veerasak Vichitsangsri reportedly tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday and people who had been his close contact with him will soon be tested for the virus.

Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesperson of the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration, said several high-ranking civil servants are believed to be infected and said everybody at risk should report to public health officials immediately.

Meanwhile, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is currently isolated and waiting for test results.

On Sunday, Veerasak had led Anutin and other public health officials to visit a hospital in Samut Sakhon.

Pictured is Veerasak NOT wearing a face mask.

Now he had a meeting lasting an Hour where they both wore Face masks, with Anutin, who now is self Isolating at Home, and does not have Covid.

YEAH RIGHT ! Anutin most likely has Covid, and I say this because his previous record of not wearing Masks is well Photographed and documented.

What is it with these People ?

144 cases means 500-1000 for sure as they don't test enough here.  I've heard reports of several cases in hospitals here in Chonburi.

He'll be off Anutins luncheon group list then.

No RSVP required you're not invited anymore... talking of lunch I wonder if Anutins meals are left on a tray outside the door?

Looking back at March, the cases started trending upwards on 15th March and the lockdown started 10 days later when daily infections were 107 with a total of 860 infected. The current surge took off on the 20th December and currently daily infections are 121 with a total of 1920 infected. Like most other nations, I would imagine that Thai public health services and their capabilities have improved immensely since the first wave, hence the delays in pulling the shutters down right now. The diaspora have already departed Bangkok for their home provinces and infections in and around Bangkok have probably already peaked already so I think the provincial health authorities data will key here.

Not to mention that they know more about the disease now than when it first reared its head, i.e. it mainly kills the elderly with weakened immune systems, and others with pre-existing conditions, and obese people with diabetes to mention a few.

No doubt the lockdown is on its way, however the lesson to be learnt here is for people to eat good quality foods in their diets, (naturally if they can afford to) and to exercise and get a little sun (Vit D) each and everyday so as to keep our immune system as healthy as possible to combat this and other viruses in the future, add to that the vaccine which everyone should get when available to do their part in getting protected and helping everyone to reach herd immunity.

The U.S. Embassy put out an email alert today re the developing CV situation that included the following....

"Event: Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health continues to report a rise in new cases of locally-transmitted Covid-19, most of which are related to the outbreak at a seafood market at Samut Sakhon and a smaller cluster associated with a social gathering in Rayong.  On December 27, 121 new cases were reported, of which 94 were locally-transmitted.

U.S. citizens traveling over the holidays should monitor the news to stay abreast of the latest reports on Covid-19 cases and any changes to provincial transportation and business operating status that could impact their travel plans.

The Thai Ministry of Public Health’s Department of Disease Control posts daily Covid-19 case updates in English at https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/eng/index.php.   News on COVID-19 mitigation measures in various provinces in English may be found at the Government of Thailand’s Public Relation Department homepage at https://thailand.prd.go.th/main.php?filename=index."

Unfortunately, the MoPH webpage they link to above pretty much has nothing but a daily recap of statistics, and no practical information in EN about what's going on.

MoPH has an EN section on their website for CV daily situation reports where more details are posted. It hasn't been updated since Dec. 19. Their website also has a separate section for EN language CV news releases. It hasn't been updated since August 23.    :ninja:

+1 just had it pop into my e-mail as well

Well, that really all depends on what amulet you have.

Went  last last minute shopping today . Came home  rather puzzled. Two large complexes we went to had  LESS screening than last week ! And they were busier than last week.

Very strange.

...what type of test was done, how was the sample obtained, what was the site, was it a RAT or PCR, or full blood profile, are the shedding virus, are they asymptomatic, have the positive cases since been vaccinated ?????????? come on, tell us!

The more you test—the more Covid cases you find.  A perfect example: the USA, with one of the world’s most aggressive testing programs. It uncovered many cases, as the media is too happy to trumpet.  Traders, in turn, saw Thailand as a safe haven to buy, and the USD to sell.  That could and should be over now, as Thailand uncovers more cases.

That is a most cynical comment and it‘s absolute nonsense. If „most of us“ were positive , quite a few vulnerable ones would be dead by now and hospitals would be overcrowded..

Incorrect....as stated, 90% of cases they are finding are asymptomatic. They have been here all along. Dream on if you think Thailand has been free of covid

Did some farang offer Anutin a mask and he refused? :clap2:

Just standard propaganda, going same way as the UK. ????

Expedite the vaccination to tomorrow, the quicker the better to start the process and get to a date where there are more and more Thai folks with 2 shots and the required days to get the vaccine fully operational within the body.

The longer they wait to start gives more opportunity for bigger spread of the virus and more positives.

They've obviously decided to end the 'Zero COVID' policy.

China won't be pleased and there will be no 'bubble' but I guess that was never going to come anyway and I suspect it's what prompted the change of policy.

Comorbidity has always been open to interpretation.  In America, someone who dies of say cancer and Covid will have Covid listed on the DC.  Some hospitals get reimbursements for Covid deaths and/or casework. Not sure it’s the same in Thailand.

and think on that fact...

90% people feel GREAT, have no idea they have this "crippling disease" but it's cause for shutdown of whole countries at whims of the leaders, and the enactment of any new laws they want to put into place.
Sickening imo.

Goes to show you, like in Thailands case...if you don't test for it and then tell people they have been "infected"...

life is completely normal.  smh.

Public Health Ministry confirms the death of a 45 year old employee of an illegal gambling den in Rayong, the 61st COVID-19 fatality in Thailand. The victim, who also had heart disease, tested positive yesterday. The gambling den is the source of at least 85 infections.

I thought that the Rayong Governor stated categorically that there were no illegal gambling dens; only friends playing cards.

Anutin Charnvirakul had tested negative for COVID-19 but was self isolating pending the result of a second test after recently being in contact with the governor of Samut Sakhon

Hey Anutin, you can't get infected from making phone contact with someone who test positive. Just to let you know, as I'm aware you're not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Does really every post you make on the forum to be about your ignorance that it is actually your Mickey Mouse currency dropping like a rock against all currencies in the world?

Germany is about the same size as Thailand and had 30.000 new cases every day last week.

The Govenor is the 1 and only confirmed case in Samut Sakhon today. More than 1500 in 10 days and today 1. The govenor. Mmmm! Makes you wander.

How did the governor of a province contract the virus?

I doubt that he was in contact with migrant workers in the seafood industry

The virus must be more widespread than admitted (lack of testing contributing to the low numbers).

Plus politicians getting the virus with all the restrictions they put in place is ironic in itself.

They either don't follow their own guidelines or the measures don't work.

Yes correct

There are players in the NFL or EPL or other European Soccer leagues who are fit enough to practice but test positive for the virus and are now 'sick'.

If you ever had the flu, a severe case of Covid or another virus, you won't be running around chasing footballs
