BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand confirmed 250 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, the majority of which were locally transmitted, the public health ministry said.

The new cases include nine imported from abroad, the ministry said. The 250 infections are among the largest number of confirmed daily cases since a big outbreak found nearly two weeks ago that was the country's largest yet.

Thailand has confirmed a total of 6,690 coronavirus cases and 61 deaths since its first case in late January.

Government spokesperson Dr Thaweesin Visanuyothin confirmed the virus is now present in 48 provinces with Amnat Charoen, Ranong and Trat the latest to report infections.

Dr Thaweesin also said that the large number of cases on Tuesday were all linked to the illegal gambling den in Rayong.

The number of new infections and total cases in Thailand since 14 Dec is as follows:

    14 Dec: +28 (4,237)

    15 Dec: +9 (4,246)

    16 Dec: +15 (4,261)

    17 Dec: +20 (4,281)

    18 Dec: +16 (4,297)

    19 Dec: +34 (4,331)

    20 Dec: +576 (4,907)

    21 Dec: +382 (5,289)

    22 Dec: +427 (5,716)

    23 Dec: +46 (5,762)

    24 Dec: +67 (5,829)

    25 Dec: +81 (5,910)

    26 Dec: +110 (6,020)

    27 Dec: +121 (6,141)

    28 Dec: +144 (6,285)

    29 Dec: +155 (6,440)

    30 Dec: +250 (6,690)

I guess they tested 95 more people today than yesterday????????????

on a more serious note how many you think they testing on a average day

    1000

    2000

    3000

it was a big news story when they tested 800 government workers so it seems they like to brag when they test a few .

Pattaya just shut down. Surprised that city has the brains to do what’s needed and lead the way.

Closing the few places clinging to life probably wasn't a tough decision.

as I said earlier in a different post.... the faster the better, numbers are growing and smart (intelligent) decisions should be made

How many tests are being completed daily nationwide and where, would be useful as well as the positives count.

But this basic information it seems is not available to the masses in case it reveals Thailands  Covid management strategies.

Don't know if that has changed due to the 'clusters' they found, but afaik so far Thailand has only tested people that showed symtoms

Rock/hard place ...given that many have already travelled and will probably need to return before provincial closures can be implemented.

Would be wise to cancel, as your province or origin may impose quarantine, overnight without warning. In March people returning to Buriram ended in tents set up in a hangar without aircon. Absolute hell, would kill me more effectively than COVID. And Farangs had to pay for the service.

Seems to me they don’t want to spoil the New Year and disrupt the billions of baht that will be spent.

It should be lockdown now otherwise the consequences will be European/US death figures. Thai hospitals can’t cope now with just general medical issues. Death in the villages will be astronomical.

    Please please lockdown.

How many tests are being done per day ?

The UK is now fast approaching 1 million tests per day.  And as they test more, they find more.

    Thailand tests per day ?

Good news.......but still some time away for Thailand to get it.

Oxford/AZ vaccine approved for use in UK.

This is the one Thailand will make locally.

    https://www.bbc.com/news/health-55280671

    Up to 90% protection.

Important...............not one single hospitalisation among all persons getting the jab in the trial.  So it seems to, so far, give 100% protection from severe Covid.

Also seems the 2nd dose can be up to 12 weeks after the 1st.

UK will roll this out from 4th Jan.

Thailand waiting for a super vaccine coming from their leaders up north.

Looks like it is rapidly escalating and will soon be out of control.  Despite incompetent leadership and a total lack of preparedness, Thailand got lucky in the first wave.  May not be so lucky in the second wave. It has no plans to even start vaccinating before May 2021, waiting for local production of Oxford Astra Zeneca.   It's own much trumpeted Chula vaccine has not even started trials and they have refused to order any ready made vaccines from reputable foreign companies.  Probably waiting for a cheap or free offer from China or Russia.

Beware of agogo and massage places, contact tracing might be an embarrassing experience ...

Not for adults. We do what we want. We are not guilt ridden puritans. What on earth is shameful about going for a massage? And Go Go bars are pretty much a way of life in many countries.
