Region 5 of the met police and Bang Khen officers announced the arrest of five men allegedly involved in the abduction and extortion of a South Korean businessman who is in the business of selling rubber gloves.

Arrested on a warrant at a house in Chaiyapreuk Ville, Sai Mai was 22 year old Burapha. Taken into evidence was an Alphard van.

Four other Thai men later gave themselves up to police.

The case followed a report from Soi Jae Kul, 44, who told police that he was the victim of an extortion plot on December 18th.

He had been contacted at 10.30 pm by someone claiming they wanted to buy rubber gloves and he arranged to meet them at a Shabu restaurant in RamIntra Soi 5 in Bang Khen.

At the meet it appeared that a man known only as Mr Ball - who remains at large -  had arranged for five men to abduct and threaten him.

He was made to go off with the men to a godown in Thung Khru and on the way transferred 1.5 million baht to Burapha's account after being threatened with a gun.

Burapha made several denials saying he was a Singaporean person of mixed Thai ancestry.

Others involved in the case are being sought.

Daily News reported that the case revolves around the supply of sub-standard rubber gloves.
