I'm encouraged, four days ago it looked like we were at the start of a rapid (if not exactly exponential) growth in case numbers. Now it looks as if the control measures might be having an effect. This is three weeks after the four-day long-weekend we had in December, and there don't seem to be any clear signs yet that the nationwide travel during that period spread the virus in any serious manner. And don't forget that, three days ago, the disease control dept warned us that there were still a lot of test results in the pipeline and we would see these coming through over the next week, resulting in high case numbers. Hopefully, what we're seeing now is just that, and the underlying trend of what's actually happening in terms of falling case numbers is masked by the backlog of positive test results. Maybe I'm being over-optimistic, but I certainly hope not.

I really think its time to put this vovid pandemic into perspective.Last Friday 80 people died on the roads in Thailand..in the last 4 days 267 (these figures dont include people who died after the event } In recent days there were 216 new case of covid 19...the total number of deaths..64.So what do we do ?? PANIC, Total Lockdown CURFEW .BUT  more people died in one day from road accidents than from covid in almost a year since it started !!! So lets take all cars.busses,  trucks and  @ motorbikes away and and close all highways , roads and streets and everybody can walk  around ....problem solved ..no more deaths. How about that ?????

Both problems being solved would be better.

Thais eat a lot more white rice which has a high glycemic index and results in type 2 diabetes.

The Philipines has goes the same way as Thailand. Since the people started eating western/american style food like burgers ,chips, kfc instead of their normal food so many are overweight and have diabetes.

One proffessors as of 25 years experience and a quiet a few Dr who say this virus is not killing people as made out to be doing asked Boris how can a virus be identified in such a short time, they are saying it takes years to identify as does making a vaccine what works, what I would like to know is after all the quarantine, lockdowns, tiers 1,2,3,and 4 and the magical vaccines don't work will we just able to get on with our lives

I agree we have just got to get on with our lives .protect the vulnerable who are aged or have underlying medical problems..yes. but the rest of us just carry on as normal. We cannot go on for ever like this. And by the way ..the death toll of covid is only around 5% and most of those are over 65 and had comorbidity and had 1 leg in the grave already.

I really can't believe how gullible people are. 216 cases a day in a population of 70 million? Come on. Then to see people making comments here based on these figures, it's the blind led by the dumb.

No country in the World would lock down major cities on these kind of figures.

It brought to mind an observation Mark Twain popularized more than a century ago. “There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.”

From the factcheck link...

“Ultraviolet is able to kill COVID-19 if it is exposed to the concentrated UV ray in a certain amount of time and distance,” Dr. Pokrath Hansasuta, an assistant professor of virology in Chulalongkorn University’s Department of Microbiology, explained to AFP by phone on March 18, 2020. “However, that level of UV exposure is harmful to human’s skin. Most likely, it will be in the light bulb or lamp as the natural UV from the sun is not strong enough to kill it.”

From your link

'While UVC lights are used commercially in products like phone disinfecting devices, UVC light can cause severe burns of the skin and eye injuries.2 “They need to be properly positioned to avoid causing eye or skin damage, which is essentially sunburn,” Nelson says.'

It appears they both say the same thing, but the first refutes the original claim by Icelandman that Thailand has less covid because of UV (via sunlight).

Again, from your link..

"UVA and UVB rays are transmitted through the atmosphere. All UVC rays are absorbed by the Earth’s ozone layer, but the UVC rays are often used in commercial light disinfecting devices. UV-LEDs are a form of UVC lights. "

Which also suggests that sunlight (UV) that we receive has had the useful UVC rays removed and is thus not useful in virus killing.

Conclusion: UV via sunlight, does not kill covid19 and Thailand's figures are, therefore, not low because of UV.

It's something else (unspecified).

Yeah I know what it ..the government health minister failed mathematics at school...

Yeah but the biggest problem is not covid in terms of lives lost.

Hopefully it stays that way. It is  terrible the attitude of the Thai authorities to just let so many people die without even the simplest measures which would also be fundraising and maybe allow them to pay the police more so they become less corrupt. Easy to fine people for not wearing seatbelts, helmets, riding underage or without a licence, speed cameras, drug and alcohol tests. Getting rid of a silent virus that even if it kills a few people is a tragedy if they are a member of your family. Having  no will to stop road deaths is not a justification for not taking any possible measures to stop Covid deaths.

Really?  but apt for the comment.

"The definition of the word explosion is the rapid expansion of a gas. ... "

From the article

"Saturday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 7,379."

There were 50,000 positive cases reported across the UK for the second day running on Wednesday, with figures showing London – now the centre of the crisis – with 5,524 patients in hospital, more than its first-wave peak in April.

According to the majority on this forum the west is so much more advanced than Thailand and the facts speak for themselves.

UK tests per day compared to Thailand tests per day.

IF YOU DONT TEST - YOU DONT FIND.

Now, which country is trying to say its Covid free and trying to attract "high net worth tourists" to stay in its "Covid Free" resorts in the Covid Free country.

And would that country have a desire not to test, to not find.........to therefore show it has none................
