webfact
Probation Department stats for New Year driving: Thai media report rosy DUI figures Picture: Naew Na Thai media Naew Na attempted to put a brave face on the New Year incidence of drunk driving showing stats that they claimed represented a reduction. They produced a graph showing that DUI was way down - but the reality was like comparing apples to oranges. Not only was the day different but with lockdowns in place and many people opting not to travel comparisons are largely ludicrous. They said that the Probation Department dealt with 3,701 DUI cases on 31st December 2019. But on Saturday January 2nd 2021 the figure was way down to just 1,162. Drugged driving cases were also halved, they claimed. For the period of 29th December past to Saturday inclusive there were 2,073 DUI cases dealt with by the Probation Department and 105 cases for driving under the influence of drugs. These figures only represent a fraction of the real number of cases that are reported by Thaivisa elsewhere. ThailandRyan
Another lack of testing and true enforcement across the board. There New Years campaign to keep the accidents and deaths down was also in tatters according to another OP. Wondering how many accidents were DUI related. Scott Tracy
And there was me thinking the Probation Department dealt with people on probation. 'the release of an offender from detention, subject to a period of good behaviour under supervision.' Small wonder the figures are so small if that is the case.
