"There is something wrong with the proxy server, or the address is incorrect."

I have encountered this error when trying to connect to the internet on my laptop. The address is not the problem.

My wifi is working on my phone and my TV is running fine with a cable from the router, so just my laptop.

I have already followed the advice to deselect 'use a proxy server for your LAN' in internet settings. In fact it was already deselected.

Any ideas guys?

Cheers

Sorry I'm a bit vague but haven't done this for a while.

Seems to me your LAN proxy server route has not been deleted. Go into your LAN settings and make sure everything to do with a proxy server is gone. If you have done this, then install another browser like Firefox and try again.

How would I delete LAN proxy server route?

Well if you checked again good.

Did you try and install a new browser?

Do you have a VPN? You could see with a connection through a VPN see what that does.

These are just suggestions, not ExPert recommendations.

I seem to remember that when I had a proxy problem, I hadn't fully removed the IP proxy address.

Pretty sure I can't see anything in the LAN settings?

Nonsense. Mine is fourteen years old and running Windows 10.

You can remove the very old and slow mechanical storage to replace it with a much faster solid state drive costing around 500 baht. Then you'll have a much faster and up-to-date laptop.

What's the full model number of the device?

That's just what I was told. No problems with Windows 7 for anything else, up until now, and all other wifi networks working fine. This is a first generation Samsung, it already has new hard drive / RAM etc etc

That's why I don't think the problem is Windows 7, although I'm sure it could be solved by upgrading. Just asking to see if there is a quicker and simpler way to solve it (maybe settings etc).

I just fired up my computer and changed to this proxy server. Mine worked. See if you're does with this proxy. If it does then turn off the proxy and try again see if anything has changed.

Proxy server address: 1.10.188.140   port: 43327.

New hard drive or new SSD?

Clearly the problem is with the OS, since everything else is working fine.

"first generation Samsung" is not a model number nor is it a description of a device.

The fact is that Windows 7 is outdated and no longer supported. We can spend hours trying to troubleshoot by disable your antivirus, running scans etc...or we can just clean install an OS to an SSD, taking perhaps thirty minutes.

Stunning two birds with one stone.

But full model number first. Some Samsungs had problems, but not because of the age of the device.

The reason why you were told it was incompatible with Windows 10, is because of the WiFi card within; it's a Broadcom WLL6230B-D99 as far as I know. http://www.escpc.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=43

So if the installation to SSD freezes, simply remove the card and continue; then replace the card after setup completes or use it as an opportunity to upgrade the card.

Upgrade example: https://www.lazada.co.th/products/ac3160ngw-intel-3160-dual-band-245ac-bluetooth40wifingff80211acwifi-i1705788270-s4833556370.html

https://shopee.co.th/Silicon-Power-128GB-256GB-512GB-เอสเอสดี-A55-SSD-3D-TLC-NAND-SATA-III-2.5-Internal-Solid-State-Drive-3-Years-Warranty-i.219846402.7131212222

Of course you could spend more on a better or larger capacity SSD; though chances are that you won't need more than 256 GB.

So from 800 baht to refurb the device with the new WiFi card and SSD. The new WiFi card should work on the new 5GHz networks; whereas your current on does not.

Swapping the slow HDD for SSD will take a few minutes, you can do that yourself easily. Swapping the WiFi card is a bit more difficult, though can still be carried out by yourself; it just takes a few more screws, but nothing complicated.

Plus you'll have help from here if need be.

Then your laptop will be ready for the new decade.

Reaching the Wireless card is more fiddly than reaching the storage bay and RAM, which takes just a few seconds.

Clearly if someone told you it was because of the laptop's age; they didn't know their onions. It's just one replaceable component that is causing the issue.
