SOURCE: Pattaya City News: May 9th 2007

5 rooms broken into during Soi Beokeow Hotel robbery.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Chayaporn from Pattaya Police Station was called to the 18 Coin Inn in Soi Beokeow on Tuesday Night after occupants of 5 rooms reported the theft of valuables. Police inspected each room and noticed that the room safes had disappeared and forced entry had been made to each room.

Hotel staff mentioned that the occupant of room number 309 may be involved in the case. The room was inspected and two room safes were found inside and the occupant had disappeared.

Hotel Staff mentioned that the occupant of the room was Mr. Jean Luc Michel aged 42 from France. He had checked in on 7th May but did not fill out a registration form as he had no passport. Despite this, the Hotel allowed him to rent a room.

He is now prime suspect in this case of theft and is now being sought by Police.

why the <deleted>#k did they allow him a room if he doesn't have a passport? these types of crimes have happened before because hotel staff does this stupid shi%t. unless they have a cctv at the hotel they have no evidence he could have given any name they don't know. hotel staff needs to be trained on minimum security measures.could have been prevented. :o

the victims probably have no need to worry seeing as the culprit is French, he will no doubt surrender.

Oh really? No PP.....

He's French - Get the sniffer dogs on him.

No passport eh? What's the betting IF they catch up with him he's on a visa overstay.

Anyhow it's good to know that the staff were so alert that he managed to break into five rooms and remove the safes. And then he managed to get three of the safes out the building.

Headline should have been "18 Coin Inn has two bit security".

Oh really? No PP.....

And no registration card filled in.

Let us suppose you work in on of Pattaya's excellent zero star hostelries

You want to make some cash

You rip off a number of guest rooms

You dump some evidence in an empty room

You call the cops

You invent a fictitious guest who occupied that room.

Anybody think this would fly ?

I had hoped in my lifetime to see certain lame levels of English jingoistic humour eliminated

by natural selection from the gene pool but ...... sigh......

this is a very new, nice looking little hotel? it just boggles the mind but the thievery is so out of control. as the other posters mention who knows at this point, could have even been an inside job. wouldn't be the first time. well, you've pretty much got to get a big-as# padlock on the door, buy some dogs and have a thai security guy standing outside 24 hours if you want anything safe here. the tourist police are too busy tracking the elusive armies of farang mafia to be bothered with solving any of these crimes. :o

So - what did the guy look like?

Anything like the guy in the 'Arab' thread?

Are the two sets of robberies (multiple rooms in one hotel) linked?

I agree with humphrey bear, It's only fair to discriminate against everyone with equal measure. I stopped at this hotel because it's right down the street from my apartment. 15,000 baht a month but the only thing keeping your room secure is that one doorknob with who knows how many copies of the keys around.I just can't think of many worse things than to be holidaying in thailand so far away from home and coming back to your room to find it ransacked. Stealing from guests is really heinous but this principle doesn't stop the local thieves and these problems happen frequently here. :o
