Can anyone help?

A month ago the GF, who already has two healthy dogs, turned up with a third one, a very small animal. The owner had decided she didn’t want it and, somehow, the GF had ended up taking her in, at least temporarily. The poor little thing was only 3 months old and blind in one eye, but she was quiet and seemed healthy otherwise.

After a week or so, the GF gave the small dog to somebody who was looking for a pet, and I thought that had all worked out quite well. Fast forward to NYE and the GF rolled up with all three dogs again, only this time the small one wasn't able to use one of her rear legs. It didn’t seem to cause her pain, and I suspected it was dislocated and just needed a vet to pop it back in again. Apparently, the woman the GF gave the dog to decided she didn’t want it after all.

So although this dog is nothing to do with me, I took her to the Na Jomtien pet clinic the next morning and they x-rayed her, at my expense. Ouch! No dislocation, the femur was snapped clean through, I’m amazed she wasn't in agony with that. The vet quoted me 16K Baht for an operation to fix the leg, but that’s a lot of money for a dog that’s nothing to do with me, so I declined.

The GF lives in Laem Chabang and is looking for a cheap clinic to fix the dog’s leg, but doesn't seem to have found anything so far. Does anybody here know of a vet who does charitable work, or a local dog care foundation, or something similar, that would carry out an operation to fix this at cost only? I don’t mind paying a few thousand Baht, but no more. She could take her anywhere in Chonburi province, it doesn't have to be Pattaya or Sri Racha.

Thanks for any help. As I said, the injury doesn’t seem to cause the dog any great pain, but it would be nice to fix it as the poor thing’s so young, and already blind in one eye, not the best start in life.

I hate seeing animals that have been mistreated like this, I assume the temporary owner up in Laem Chabang must have kicked the dog or stamped on her to snap the femur like that. I’ll leave the GF to deal with her, anyway.

Very sad and you're being as noble as you can.

I can't help but I wish you and the little pooch the very best wishes and luck!

Thanks.

I wish I was rich and could afford to fix all this stuff, but the 850 Baht for the x-ray was already an unexpected expense.

Ask soi dogs organisation. They will give you the best advice.

Have taken in 4 soi dogs ourselves so understand your problem.

Useful information, may be they can advise....

These are in Phuket apparently but you never know what connections or advice they may have.

Thanks for the ideas.

One thing I might not have made clear  is that she's not a soi dog. I'm unsure of her parentage, but I suspect it's something like shi tzu crossed with either a chihuahua or possibly a miniature poodle. Probably quite expensive if you wanted to buy one, but the Thais seem to breed all sorts of crosses, get bored with them as they end up with too many, and then give the surplus away.

I guess the soi dog people may be willing to give some advice, though, so it's probably worth calling them.
