Thailand reports 365 new COVID-19 cases, one more death

Thailand confirmed 365 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday.

 

Of the new cases, 250 were local transmissions, 99 were among migrant workers and 16 were imported from people entering quarantine.

 

One more person has died from the virus, health officials said. 

 

A further 21 people have been discharged from hospital.

 

4,913 people remain in hospital or held in a migrant worker quarantine centre.

 

Wednesday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 9,331, with 66 deaths.

...well, 365 + 900 cases they found in Samui Sakhon they found today (by testing 3,800 = 24%)

 

So, I'm guessing the total number is 1,265...although there could be some overlap in the migrant number.

 

Don't understand why they don't count all cases in Thailand, except to minimize the problem and confuse the people.

Why not report 1,265 cases when there are 1,265 cases. Pretending the other 900 cases isn't in Thailand doesn't make them disappear.

No. The 900 were reported first, more than an hour before the 365. Nonetheless, either government bodies don't cooperate in Thailand, or it was well known internally, figures that could easily have been merged and reported together. I'm assuming they have an online registry system in place and aren't still sending papers through post mail as they still do at certain offices in Thailand.

Provincial and regional numbers come out before national numbers. Today's regional numbers will show in tomorrow's national numbers. It's really simple.

They have reporting procedures. This is how they work.

 

Lots of detailed information out there but it's all in Thai. If you could read Thai, you  would complain they release too much.

I know there is, and no its not all in Thai.

They can still easily organize better and publish today's numbers today. Wait until say 6PM. Any cases after that will be added tomorrow. Instead of having ALL cases added tomorrow. People want to know today. We're not in the 90's anymore.

No. A national reporting system is not simple. If you think it is, you need to go help France. Their data is much worse than Thailand. It truth, almost all internet data is smoothed for at least one week to smooth out reporting delays.

They have around the same daily numbers as Thailand. Frequently updates as cases comes in. 

Of course France struggles, it's well known they've been a mess for years, no one's surprised their healthcare system couldn't handle such a big outbreak, but why pick the worst examples? There are plenty of others you could've chosen. Plenty you could compare to Thailand's figures.

Save face, maybe they hoping for a lower than 365 number tomorrow to add to the 900. Always emphasizing the migrant figures in my opinion is all about trying to make the situation look better than it is.

349 domestic Covid-19 cases reported with one death

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported 365 confirmed cases, including 16 in quarantine facilities, on Wednesday.

 

Of the total, 215 are domestic cases whose occupations exposed them to or took them to risky places in Samut Songkhram (2 cases), Bangkok (28), Ratchaburi (3), Samut Sakhon (20), Ayutthaya (2), Lopburi (3), Chonburi (70), Chanthaburi (28), Kanchanaburi (2), Nakhon Pathom (2), Pathum Thani (3), Nonthaburi (2), Phichit (2), Chachoengsao (2), Chiang Mai (1), Nakhon Ratchasima (2), Samut Prakarn (34), Rayong (4), Ratchaburi (1), Surin (2), and Surat Thani (2).

 

Ninety-nine people were found positive in proactive testing -- 47 in Samut Sakhon (41 migrant workers and six Thais), 30 in Rayong (three migrant workers and 27 Thais), four Thais in Chonburi, seven in Chanthaburi, one in Samut Songkhram, five in Prachinburi, and five in Trat.

 

Thirty-five cases are under investigation to find the source of the infection -- one each in Trat, Ratchaburi, Samut Songkhram and Pathum Thani, Bangkok (5), Chonburi (6), Rayong (10), Samut Prakarn (10).

 

Thirteen of the 16 patients testing positive in quarantine facilities were Thais -- two each from Turkey and Germany, one each from Canada, Israel, Switzerland and Malaysia and five from the United States. The three foreigners were an American and two Ethiopians from their respective countries.

 

CCSA spokesperson Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin said a 63-year-old male driver, who transferred migrant workers in Samut Sakhon, had died. His symptoms developed on December 27 with high fever, cough, and runny nose. The patient was admitted after oxygen in his blood dropped to 76 per cent and he was diagnosed with pneumonia. During treatment, his kidney was found to have failed. He passed away on January 5 afternoon after respiratory and multiple organ failures.

 

Meanwhile, 21 patients have recovered and been discharged.

 

The total number of confirmed cases in Thailand has risen to 9,331 – 7,249 of which were contracted domestically, including 2,575 migrant workers, and 2,082 returnees. So far, 4,418 have recovered and been discharged, while the death toll increased to 66.

 

According to Worldometer, as of 10am on Monday, the total number of confirmed cases globally had risen to 86.83 million (up by 534,035), 63.4 million have recovered, 23.42 million are active cases (108,091 in severe condition) and 1.87 million have died (up by 13,343).

 

Thailand ranks 130th in the global list of most cases, while the US tops the list with 21.57 million, followed by India 10.37 million, Brazil 7.81 million, Russia 3.28 million and United Kingdom 2.77 million.

Not if it's like yesterday, where there was 527 official cases + 470 samut sakhon cases that weren't included in the daily total, and weren't included in todays either

I mean admittedly I am no maths professor but he said 7/1000 would be .7% which i think is correct, it would have been a bit more clear if he had put a zero in front of the dot, but i suppose he was expecting most people to have reasonable eyesight, or be wearing their glasses.. ????

I had heard that the math taught in school here was lacking. Is this empirical proof of the need to improve the educational system? With 900 more in the epicenter, 365 seems a bit off. 

 

And why isn't Samut locked down like San Quentin? What gives? Prayuth said he was concerned, and he claimed they are competent and can be trusted. Yet the province remains as open as your neighborhood 7-11.

According to news articles on other sites the "900" cases were previously included in the numbers from other days. So they weren't double counted. 

 

Many countries and/or new media agencies seem to have a problem counting and accounting.

Very lame. Nearly every time I see someone complaining, or observing a shortfall within Thailand, some lame guy, who has not taken the time to think things through, nor to devote any focus or effort to a reasonable reply, says something like "Perhaps Thailand is not for you", or maybe you should leave, or the top prize, "if you do not like it here, go back to your own country". Hard to even respond to such inane statements. Why? Because I have some issues with the place?

 

Sorry to inform you, but the nature of a discerning mind, is to have issues. Though absolute contentment must be a beautiful state of mind, it is not something most of us are blessed with, in case you have not noticed. The fact that I complain, does not mean I do not love Thailand, nor most of it's people. I do.  I love my life here. I have a very good life here. But, I do have some complaints, and there are some things I would love to see improved. I should leave because of that? Please. Next time you make a post, try to devote at least two moments of thought to it.
