BANGKOK (NNT) - The Deputy Minister of Public Health has traveled to Chantaburi to provide moral support to medical workers dealing with COVID-19.

Deputy Minister of Public Health Satit Pitutecha went to Chan Pracha Ruam Jai field hospital in Chantaburi province to meet with medical workers and support their tireless efforts. He also visited a proactive screening point setup at the province’s Public Health Office, which since December 30, 2020 has checked 770 people and found 50 COVID-19 infections, forwarding the patients to Phrapokklao Chantaburi Hospital.

He concluded his visit by meeting with civil heads and members of the private sector, receiving a briefing on the COVID-19 situation in the province and hearing about obstacles to their efforts before handing down policies.

In Rayong province, Governor Channa Iamsaeng attended a media conference reporting the discovery of another seven infections. While indicating the rate of infections has slowed, he stated the province’s total is 492 patients with one severely affected. The conference included the uplifting story of how Rayong Hospital physicians were able to deliver the baby of a mother suffering from the effects of COVID-19. The newborn boy was cleared of the virus and is exhibiting good health but will now be monitored for 14 days. The governor thanked the medical team and lauded them for pulling off the trying procedure.

Sriracha Tiger Zoo in Chonburi province has announced it will be shutting its doors until the COVID-19 situation is resolved, following Chonburi being placed under the highest controls against the spread of the coronavirus. Manager of Business Development for the zoo, Rapiphan Siwatada explained that the decision was in cooperation with the state, and that zoo staff would continue to work as usual caring for animals.

In Surat Thani province, Mayor of Surat Thani Municipality Thirakij Wangmutitakul, led an inspection of Lamphu 2, a popular seafood restaurant where the province’s eleventh COVID-19 infection was identifieded. The patient reported having visited the restaurant on December 29 after meeting with family from Samut Sakhon province. Surveillance footage however showed the patron went there on December 27 before the meeting. As a result, authorities disinfected the venue to encourage public confidence.

Meanwhile, members of the Muang district health network in Surat Thani have screened 100 foreign laborers in Bang Kung sub-district and are awaiting test results.
