Our house phone is now dead since the rains a few days ago (no signal/dial tone) or sometimes there sometimes not - at the moment totally dead. Our bills are from TOT (on the envelope and inside bill) and has been that way for 10 years. My wife called TOT to report the problem and they said we needed to contact TT&T for service since TOT only submits the billing. Anybody know what the story is regarding this, are TT&T and TOT now a combined entity? Located in Chiangmai.

BTW: it is an external problem from the house. Connected a phone directly to the terminal lines at the termination block at the side of house and disconnected all internal phones and no signal. DC voltage at the block is also only 27VDC vs the norm of 48VDC, so suspect a bad connection or relay in their circuit.

If I wanted ADSL, now I don't know if it would be TOT or TT&T.

TT&T is a private company which has been granted concessions by TOT (=government) to install, own and manage fixed phone lines (only in the provinces, Bkk is of limits for them).

For this they have to pay concession fees, and to keep it simple (read to make sure TOT gets the money) all the billing is handled by TOT so they can deduct the fees at the source!

So since TT&T installed and owns the network you are on, it is indeed them who have to be called to get some technical support.

Same for the ADSL, since you are on a network TOT does not have access to, you cannot get ADSL through TOT but only TT&T. It is in a TT&T owned exchange where they have to hook your line up to a TT&T managed DSLAM...
