Two teachers charged for not having a work permit.

Featured Replies

There is this article about two teachers who have been charged for teaching without a work permit.  It might be of interest to some of our teachers.   It's notable that the teachers are being charged, but not the school.

Very easily resolved by placing a regulation whereby all employers are responsible for the legal status of their employees.

Erm... oh,... that law may exist...  So, what we have here ladies and gentleman is an unchecked corrupt system where the vulnerable are forced to remain vulnerable and the shady actions of employers are not enforced.

...............and someone will be along shortly to point out that they were on tourist visas and new they were working illegally - OK.. but so did the school who can contend to tell the teachers ’take it or leave it’.. those who leave have to continue to struggle looking for work.

Exit stamp for the scapegoats medal for the school governor what a rancid pile of cac  this place has become ????

Oh, pray to god!

In my experience, it takes 3-4 months from the date of hire, to finally receive a Non-B visa, khurusapha waiver, then work permit. This has been made even longer with the Covid situation. During that time the schools all expect you to work. Whenever teachers ask about this, they're usually told oh don't worry, we'll just tell them your docs are in progress. I guess sometimes that works, and sometimes it doesn't.

One admin once told me she's lost quite a few teachers after 2-3 months, after seeing these raids and arrests in the news, worried about working without docs, and simply packing their bags. Others just have to bite their nails and wait. We're all livin' on the edge here in Amazin' Thailand, man.

Why can't they give a WP immediately?

Some of the worst characters I have ever met in schools here in Thailand said they 'like gospel music' and/or professed how much they 'trust God.' Just saying. ????

It's my view that more needs to be talked about & shared with regards to how it really is working for schools here. Of course not all but for the most part, especially with lower tiered and government schools. Anywhere from the bureaucratic paperwork, <deleted>&ing, predatory staff rooms, and lack of professionalism amongst the local teachers.

You pretty much have to be a 'walk over' or great looking to have job security. 5555
