Popular Post richard_smith237
The manner in which ‘some’ Thai’s can so clumsily and publicly put both 'feet in it' while urinating all over the combined face of common sense and political correctness never ceases to amaze me. So ignorantly arrogant is the mentality of those who make such policies they fail to recognise the elephant in the room, which in this case is not just in the room but knocking one out... They completely fail to understand that foreigners are no more at risk of having Covid-19 in Thailand than Thai’s. Those foreigners who can not longer play at this course may well not do so in future. Perhaps they can afford to lose the business. 21 10

tonray
I don't golf but I know exactly where that course is as the first school I taught at was only about 2 Kilo away and I used to pass it a couple times a week being in the area, It's very nice and there was always a huge contingent of Japanese around that local area, there also are some big Japanese/Thai business ventures headquartered out that way which explains it I guess.

Popular Post Lacessit
Of course, the thought the caddies and ground staff go shopping in local dalats where everyone is cheek by jowl has not occurred to the boneheaded management. Hey guys, markets are where the virus originated, and where it spreads best. No problem, I'll just cross you off my list of golf courses I'd like to play in Thailand. 7 1

The stats definitely indicate the opposite. Someone in the UK, US is 1,100 times more likely to have it. And definitely more likely to ignore rules designed to limit the spread which is probably why they felt it necessary to introduce this temporary measure to protect the lives of their members. The score is on the board. Thais dying of Covid is a rare event. You can’t be too careful in a pandemic, especially with this new highly contagious mutant UK super strain variant that is now sweeping across the globe killing thousands. It isn’t a time for political correctness. It is a time for common sense and preventative measures. I am sure once the foreigners get covid under control they will be welcomed back with a wai and the famous Thai smile. 1 1 4

It's not about foreigners coming into Thailand with infections, it's about foreigners who have lived here for some time. They are no more likely to be infectious than the average Thai. If I rock up to said golf club with my passport demonstrating I have not left Thailand for a year, I will still be rejected as a foreigner. That's discrimination, ignorant, and they deserve to go under. 4

That's discrimination, ignorant, and they deserve to go under. Most of their clientele currently would be Thais. Let’s face it, there is blanket news coverage in Thailand regarding the covid situation especially in foreign countries, where people are still refusing to wear masks, people are protesting about wearing masks, the morgues are full, etc etc. The local news also has shown foreigners partying together in Pattaya etc The Thai population mostly haven’t resisted the measures put in place, such as mask wearing, so it is totally understandable why Thais would be wary of foreigners during this deadly pandemic. Is it really worth it for the club to scare away their Thai members for a few foreigners? In Australia we have similar rules for foreigners as do other countries. I remember PM Scooter Morrison a few months ago telling foreigners to get out of Australia. A bit more dramatic than not being allowed to play a game of golf. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-04-03/coronavirus-pm-tells-international-students-time-to-go-to-home/12119568 As coronavirus spreads, 'it's time to go home' Scott Morrison tells visitors and international students. Additionally Thais are allowed to discriminate. Their country, they can do what they want. You are an uninvited guest here. 1

And this latest deadly outbreak is a result of these foreigners.

Though I'd suggest the sign refer to "non-members" as opposed to "foreigners". But my skin isn't so thin that I'd dismiss the possibility of poor and/or insensitive translation skills rather than xenophobia. One of the reasons I truly enjoyed my 7 years working in Thailand is because I didn't spend my time and emotional energy trying to be angry about the way I was treated. I am sure he has plenty. I researched four different countries for six months before settling on Thailand to retire as my best option. I'm not sure what your point is, because if the Thais did not want retirees here, they would not have a visa specifically targeting the demographic. You may be right about the owner, it's the caddies that bear the brunt of fewer players.
