Another thing to factor in: The UK will soon host the G7

The G7 – which is made up of the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the USA and the EU – is the only forum where the world’s most influential and open societies and advanced economies are brought together for close-knit discussions.

Do you think the UK will line up small humiliations for the EU?

And not just for the G7..

In addition to the G7 Summit and later this year the UK will host COP26 in Glasgow

That would poison the atmosphere, Russia and China would love that, though I'm not sure we'd get anywhere in terms of saving the planet

Up one notch..

What does "not friendly" mean in diplomatic linguo?

Seems like the Who's song, "we're not gonna take it"

In the scale of diplomatic language, I think this is pretty strong

... the article says that the UK is likely to make a U-turn quickly

I see your inventing statements again there is nothing in the quoted article that states "the article says that the UK is likely to make a U-turn quickly"

Rule 16) You will not make changes to quoted material

(...) Croisdale-Appleby’s status could be downgraded although it is more likely that the issue will be settled in the coming weeks.

It's just another extension of the politicians political hobby, burning up more manhours, and probably producing absolutely no useful product or outcome for the people of the EU or the UK.

What is the next thing, the nationalists will want an embassy for Scotland, Wales, England etc In addition to the UK.  Together with the associated security costs etc.

Can't really be bothered to take sides in this subject. It is all in the domain of the politicians that appear to have the view that the people exist to support their political hobby, rather than than those politicians (and their considerable number of associates/servants) being there to maintain an efficient organisational frameworks and a peaceful atmosphere to allow their citizen, residents, and visitors to maximise there life experience.

e.g. It looks like trade at an individual level between the EU countries and the UK will be devastated for a good while, as the politicians have all gone in the huff with each other ????

there is some use in using irritating tactics in negotiations

for example during the talks with Barnier, David Frost never said "the European Union", he said "your organization"

... it's all symbolic OK, but these mean details have a real consequence: to humiliate the EU during the negotiations

Quote

The British approach follows a pattern of behaviour exhibited during the trade and security negotiations over the last year. The UK’s chief negotiator, David Frost, irritated his counterpart, Michel Barnier, by repeatedly referring to the EU as “your organisation”.

now you hear the UK complaining there should be more "goodwill" on the EU side, but in the end you reap what you saw

45 years of being used, abused and ripped off by the EU saw the back of us.
