Your right, Agoda can be quite fair.

Last May we had a booked a hotel near Gatwick through Agoda but the whole trip was cancelled due to the covid. When we tried to get a refund, Agoda initially said to claim it from the hotel as by that time the booking had moved into their non refundable period. The hotel refused and Agoda gave us a credit.

This happened on quite a big scale back in April last year, Phuket hotels kicked out literally thousands of tourists as they chose to close instead of staying open, also happened to myself in Hua Hin.
