With my Agoda discount I've found they don't really beat the price when I've inquired at the reception of the hotels before. And Agoda has a free cancelation policy so the risk to lose money is reduced. Your right, Agoda can be quite fair. Last May we had a booked a hotel near Gatwick through Agoda but the whole trip was cancelled due to the covid. When we tried to get a refund, Agoda initially said to claim it from the hotel as by that time the booking had moved into their non refundable period. The hotel refused and Agoda gave us a credit.
