Can you bypass applying for a non o-a visa and only apply for a non o-visa if no Thai family? I read online that if you apply at your embassy in Usa for a Non-O and list in review of retirement you can get this type of visa. Looking to bypass the mandatory health insurance requirement. I more than meet all the financial requirements just cannot get health insurance only have social security and Medicare from the Usa government.

Thank you

Some Embassies will issue no -O for retirement but in the US no.

You can enter visa exempt or on Tourist visa then convert to an O incountry.

Thank you for reply, So can come on a tourist visa and leave ie Lao? after 30 or 90 days apply for a non-o even with no Thai family? He can meet all money requirements but def not health insurance requirements. Then going forward to renew at immigration in country once per year just need to show proof of income bank statements in addition to address etc? Thank you

Cannot leave and re-enter. Borders are closed. And remember mandatory 2 week quarantine on entry.

Can change visa exempt entry and I think also Tourist visa to a non- O visa incountry then do a 1 year extension based on that.

There have been countless threads on this. Use Google and search for it.

Correct.

800,000 Baht in a Thai bank needed. Or proof of 65,000 Baht monthly income. Or a combination of both.

OP, ...can enter Thailand visa exempt or tourist visa then obtain a non O (based on retirement). Will need 800k in Thai bank a/c in your name only on day of application.

Also need to show those funds came from overseas. That visa gives 90 day permission of stay. In last 30/45 days apply for annual extension. At time of application the 800k would need to have been in bank for 2 months. Clearly the first priority is to open Thai bank account. Many threads about that.

Not exactly correct at this time. The are issuing them due to the covid 19 situation.

It though requires the 40/400 medical insurance valid for the 90 day entry from the non-o visa.

See: https://thaiembdc.org/2020/11/17/nonoretirement/

So for now because of the current covid situation, Am I correct in reading that the 40/400 med insurance is only necessary for the 1st 90 days then going forward the 40/400 coverage will not be needed for the non-o visa based on retirement?

A single entry non-o visa would allow a 90 day permit to stay when entering the country. The insurance is only needed for that 90 days.

Then during the last 30 days of the 90 days you could apply for one year extension of stay based upon retirement. At that time you would need 800k baht in the bank for 2 months or proof of 65k baht income.

What proof of 65K baht income do IO want? Would pension letter and/or bank statement do?

They will accept a letter from your embassy if you are from a country that still does them (UK, USA and Australia do not do them). Or they want to see proof of at least 65k baht transferred from abroad into a Thai bank account.

The 65 k does how long seasoned for in the Thai Bank account will suffice the IO? How many sequential transfers need to happen on a monthly basis in my friends case in would be in the form of Social security checks that could be automatically direct deposited into the Thai bank account
