A bomb weighing approximately 340 kilogrammes was unearthed in Kampot province on Friday and has been safely transported offsite. It was first spotted by residents in Kandal commune’s Banteay Mean Rith village in Toek Chhou district and they reached out to the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) to intervene.

After arriving and finding the bomb buried five metres deep in the ground, CMAC specialists removed it and transported it to a safe destination. The M117 bomb was introduced during the Vietnam War in the 1950s and was heavily used during Operation Arc Light (1965 to 1973) during the war, according to the United States Air Force.

The last-ever M117 bomb was dropped on an empty island close to Guam on June 26, 2015. The bombs could also work as mines with a delayed fuse.

I hope someone will send the USA an invoice for removing their bomb. And maybe send it back to them.
