webfact
Schools in Mae Sot shut 1 hour after reopening as 5 children test positive By THE NATION All 15 schools in Mae Sot were ordered to shut down on Monday morning less than an hour after reopening, following the discovery that several children had tested positive for Covid-19. Mae Sot district in Tak province shares a border with Myanmar. Today is the first day that schools nationwide were permitted to reopen by the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), after the new wave of virus cases reported since December subsided. A news source revealed that the order came after a merchant in Mae Sot district tested positive for Covid-19 and was taken to Mae Sot Hospital along with 25 people who were in close contact with him. “Last night [January 31], further test results showed five children who are related to the patients are also infected,” said the source. “This led to the shutdown of the community where the patients live as well as 15 schools in the municipality.” As of Monday, Tak has reported 144 cases during the fresh Covid-19 outbreak, with 49 patients currently being treated, 93 recovered and discharged, and two deaths. webfact
Parents in Mae Sot district rush to collect children from schools following reports of five new COVID-19 infections All schools in the municipal area of Mae Sot district, in Thailand’s western province of Tak, were ordered closed again today, only an hour after the resumption of in-person classes, when a report went viral that five people, including a student, were found to be infected with COVID-19. Many parents hurried to schools to collect their children less than an hour after they had sent them back to school on the first day of classes in over a month. Initial reports said that pro-active screening today had found a family of five, including a student, positive for the virus. Members of this family had reportedly travelled to several places in Mae Sot district before their COVID-19 infections were diagnosed. Popular Post Peter Denis
First sentence of the report > Mae Sot district in Tak province shares a border with Myanmar. Yes, that is correct but is it relevant for this school-closure story. The original story was that 5 children tested positive. In the update it turns out only 1 student was tested positive. Closing all 15 schools because of 1 positive tested student, seems an over-reaction Parents rushing to the schools to get their children out. The fear-attitude has been whipped up to levels which will make any return to normality as good as impossible. 5

Come on Man! What a crazy statement. Firstly many South African teachers have been residing in Thailand for a long time, way before Covid arrived and secondly any teachers that may be hired from South Africa would go through numerous checks as well as quarantine before entering any school to teach, as would anybody from any country. Your comment makes no sense!!
unblocktheplanet
ALL schools nationwide should be random testing. And parents should be smart enough to keep kids home if they're not feeling well. Save the teachers!
bwpage3
Thailand is only now starting to test, and I think it is still limited. Still no testing anywhere in Isaan. The more they test, the more they will find. To think Thailand had limited covid was absurd. They were not looking for it or testing for it. Now that they are testing, there are new cases everyday, even with their limited testing.

Ron jeremy
If the children are testing positive, imagine how many adults have actually got it! As many know, the thais won’t go to the hospital unless deathly ill, for fear of being quarantined and not being able to work and feed their families
