stage 4 kidney disease, travelling to Thailand and insurance

Featured Replies

I have Stage 4 kidney disease and I'm wondering is it advisable to travel to Thailand I would imagine that if my kidneys were to fail whilst travelling then I would be up s*** Creek I am in my mid 50s ,  I have other condition which I will not go into  ,      if I did need dialysis whilst in Thailand would that cost a lot of money,         is there anywhere in Thailand where I get good health insurance    or in the UK     and what would that cost me roughly.

am I better just to stay at home ????

TIA

I'm sorry to inform you that no insurance company will cover you for these types of severe pre-existing conditions. You are simply too much of a risk.

You would have to be able to pay your own potential hospital bills in Thailand or suffer the consequences if you cannot afford to.

OP,

For your own well being and safety stay where you are.

Not only would Insurance be a major issue to you, but on going Health Care of the sort you require is extremely expensive.

And this is if you are able to enter the Country with all the costs Etc involved.

Sorry for such a negative post, but I really wish you well and safe,

I take my mother in law to dialysis twice a week here in khon kaen province. The cost, as we elected to get treatment outside the thai insurance system, is two thousand baht per treatment. She also goes for additional testing once every three months or so to check on her current condition and adjust her medications (hypertension and all). The main issue is finding a dialysis clinic with availability because ckd is very common in Thailand. When we wanted to go with her to visit Phuket, we called every dialysis clinic we could but found no availability. So if you plan to travel to Thailand, make sure you have your route and schedule planned out and make appointments with dialysis clinics accordingly. I hope it works out for you and stay strong.

As others have said, no possibility to get health insurance, here or anywhere else. That is not how health insurance works, you have to get it while still healthy.

you need to consider nto just the cost of dialysis but of treatment for the other complications that can ensue.

Unless you have plenty of money,  don't risk it.
