By your logic (and using a few examples already opinioned) Osama Bin Laden shouldn't have been tried for the 9/11 attrocities purely because it would 'unite' a bunch of extremist Muslims.

The leader of the Proud Boys shouldn't be tried because it would 'unite' another bunch of racists with mummy issues.

 

There is nothing fake in wanting to see justice done. In fact, I would suggest that if the GOP were less 'fake' and had half the backbone of the Dems, America wouldn't be in this state now. 

 

And yes, he'll likely get off because of a sycophantic Senate, terrified of his base and willing to trample over the Constitution to save their own skins but don't confuse their cowardice with doing what's right.

Washington Post combed through public records of the terrorists arrested for storming the Capitol on 6 Jan. Some interesting facts were revealed.

 

From the Post:

 

"Nearly 60 percent of the people facing charges related to the Capitol riot showed signs of prior money troubles, including bankruptcies, notices of eviction or foreclosure, bad debts, or unpaid taxes over the past two decades, according to a Washington Post analysis of public records for 125 defendants with sufficient information to detail their financial histories."

 

The Post added that the 'filed for bankruptcy' rate for those arrested was twice the national average.

 

The generalizations about 45's base always seem to be borne out by the facts. Irresponsible types who need someone else or something else to blame for their own failures buy into the siren song 45 plays for them, where he not only gives them an excuse for their shortcomings, but a target for their bitterness that doesn't involve the bathroom mirror.

 

Historically this is what all budding authoritarians do, tapping into a human weakness present in many, where people are incapable of accepting personal responsibility. The siren songs played by autocrat wannabes is ultimately 100% self-serving, but so desperate is the mob for 'others' to blame, they are easily manipulated and used.

 

If 45 has any skill at all, it's his ability to use people and get them to do his bidding. He uses his base's inherent weakness against them.

Indeed the former president who lost both the popular vote and the electoral vote in the 2020 election will be busy for the next few years, and of course all these cases will be appealed up to SCOTUS. 

But aside from golf he can't return to his old ways, e.g. he can't go back to being a masher* in the tony Fifth Ave shops with a Secret Service detail guarding him.

He should go into exile and play golf with Thaksin.

The Democrats have spliced together various scenes with parts of a President Trump speech to make it look like President Trump was giving orders, or some such nonsense. The video also omits President Trump's words to "peacefully and patriotically" protest.  Most of the general public will see through this, though those who operate on emotion only will not.  And of course President Trump will be found not guilty.
