I have been fortunate enough to extend my tourist visa (which could have ostensibly been extended indefinitely via extensions / border runs, but we all know that option is off the table) until March 30, but I am wondering what will happen when it comes time to pay the piper, metaphorically.

Obviously, the pandemic is not going to improve significantly by March 30.

This is a years-long ordeal and things will not return to normal for at least another two years, at best. My question is: Am I going to be able to stay here on my recurring-extension visa, or will immigration just tell me to get a proper visa, or to go back home to the United States? (Not an option I’m willing to entertain.)

I just want to plan in advance, what’s going to happen to me.

Your point?

I'm in roughly the same boat (US citizen doing 60-day Covid extensions, currently extended until March 30th), and at this point I just sort of assume they'll continue doing these extensions for the foreseeable future.  If not, there are various other visa options available.  Presumably there will be an announcement of some kind if the situation changes.
