Sanook confirmed the ten provinces that are to get the first two million doses of coronavirus vaccinations.

These will be two jabs each for one million people mainly in high risk groups and among health service personnel.

In some areas like Bangkok, Samut Sakhon and Tak they will also vaccinate some people over 60 and some with underlying chronic health issues.

Vaccinations will be carried out at state and private health facilities and ER centers though this is subject to change.

The provinces are:

Bangkok
Samut Sakhon
Nonthaburi
Pathum Thani
Samut Prakan
Rayong
Chonburi
Chantaburi
Trat and
Tak, a north western province where there have been a number of cases of Covid in recent days.

The vaccinations will take place from February to April 2021.

Why are they not looking outward to what other countries are doing? The UK have now exceeded 15 million jabs but have focussed on only one jab for the most vulnerable, which is giving 67% immunity. Surely if they did this then they could protect twice the number of people? Is it because they are not expecting to receive any more doses in the near future?

that 2mln doses are for 1mln people. At any time they can decide to give only 1 jab and try to order more.

however, so far it's only one off an emergency 2mln - not a repeat contract.

They can also shift those vax to the other provinces, as situation changes.

This same info was posted just a few days ago, with more details - like how many allocated to each province, how many medical centers are prepared.

By repeating the same they try to calm down people, as virus spreads to the other provinces

Why isn't Nakhon Pathom on the list, there were 8 new cases reported there today and it has regularly featured in the new case list over the last six weeks. With Samut Sakhon, Nonthaburi and Pathum Thani on the list, how on earth does it make sense to leave Nakhon Pathom out???

10 provinces and the other ones get nothing ....

They'll get daily government and media pep-rallies and promises as the rest of the world rolls out vaccines to their general populations.

BKK?  Exactly.

Yawn, come on, this is just a lazy argument.

Plenty of poor people in Bangkok, which also happens to be the economic & communication center of the country and at higher risk of a major outbreak due to sheer population density. Seems like a fairly reasonable priority list of 10 provinces (note, 9 of these not being Bangkok) based on current hotspots.

it's the normal tomorrow "we will have....... or we will do......"

Its fine, today Anutin has promised it will arrive on the 24th Feb unless it does not.

Anutin said 200,000 doses of vaccines developed by Sinovac will leave the manufacturing plant in China on Saturday and they will be flown into Thailand within Feb. 24 – though he added an ominous warning that the delivery could be delayed if there is any unforeseen complication.

I agree, it makes complete sense to vaccinate the provinces that are at the highest risk. Much of the country has been completely unaffected by Covid this time round, so by concentrating the recourses in the areas that are most at risk, the rest of us will be protected almost by default.

Using province population figures from Wikipedia (2019 figures) & Covid Cases from the daily Government update (as of 15-Feb), the top 20 Provinces with the largest number of reported cases are as below. The Provinces in bold are the ones listed as getting the first doses of vaccine.

Note that the population figures are for Thai people & do not include foreign workers - either legal or illegal. Note also that the Reported Cases includes the 1st & 2nd waves. As far as I can tell, Chiang Mai has had 21 reported cases in a population of almost 1.8 million & Nakom Pathom 88 cases in a population of almost 1 million. The Infection Rate/100,000 people is the number of infections divided by the population multiplied by 100,000.

I would have thought Ang Thong & Samut Songkhram with infection rates of around 40 would also have been candidates for the vaccine.

With only 2 million doses, & a total population of those Provinces getting the vaccine of nearly 14 million people, a lot of people in those Provinces will miss out anyway. But it is a start.
