Passport replaced: what happened to visa, extension of stay and 90-day reporting?

Hello everyone,

I just got my passport replaced (due to close to expiry). In the old passport, I have a valid visa, extension of stay (till end of 2021) and 90-day reporting (which i usually do online).

What is Thailand Immigration view regarding the visa & extension of stay validity in my old passport? I have not had a chance to transfer them to the new passport yet, does it still valid?

Will the 90-day reporting works on the old passport information?

Thank you and kind regards,

Nothing has changed re your permission of stay etc. Ubonjoe along with others recommends attend immigration and have the information transfered sooner rather than later.

I traveled for quite some time using both pp as I had about 4 months till my next extension at the time.

No issue.

Note no charge for transfer of passport information. Do you have letter from embassy to give to immigration?

Apart from immigration make sure you update your details with your bank (passport #)

Everything in you old passport remains valid but to do about anything you would have to show both passports.

You could not do anything at immigration without both passports until you transfer your stamps to the new one and they would insist you do it then.

Would i  have to go back to the same immigration office that i get my Extension of Stay done or any immigration office is fine? I live in Chonburi, prefer to go to Pattaya Immigration office.

Which begs the question how you have an extension of stay beyond the expiration date of your old passport?  Normally they are not provided beyond expiration date so you might want to make sure on that as you want to get everything done before on overstay..

Sorry, to be clear... The old passport has about 1 year more validity (march 2022), but i thought i should replaced it before i forgot or other things get in the way.

Your embassy should of given the letter when you picked up your a passport. It requests immigration to transfers your stamps.

Some embassies now do stamp in the new one that has your old passport number on it that is equal to the letter.

Great - most procrastinate until the last minute so did not expect that.

Hi ubonjoe, I do not have the letter, but yes i have the stamp on the old passport from the embassy saying that the passport has been replaced with the new one (ID written).

It just says that all visas in the passport remain valid... but I am curious whether that's the view of the Thailand immigration or not, hence the post here.

Thank you.

When I did it (some years back) my old pp had same comments you mention, however I was also given letter from embassy to give to immigration.

There have been couple of reports recently that person did not have the letter and it was not an issue.

An expert will be along to advise re the letter.

Which imm office do you use. If convenient you could check in person.

Hi DrJack54,

I plan to go to Pattaya Immigration office tomorrow morning and see if they can do stamp transfer, and 90-day reporting all at the same time.

The office that issued my Extension of Stay was not them. I think I would be more comfortable to go to Pattaya immigration first and check with them if they can do it or not, otherwise might have to go back to the place where I get my Extension of Stay.

Thank you.

My understanding is that any stamp information can only be transfered where they were issued. For example I deal with CW and had information from old pp transfered to new at CW. However the reentry permit desk would not transfer my reentry permit details as it was issued at DMX.

On the basis that you now live in Pattaya permanently, I suggest that you arm yourself with a completed TM30 form for your trip to Jomtien Immigration tomorrow, unless you have already lodged one with them. Strikes me as unlikely that they would be prepared to process your stamps transfer otherwise.

In addition what is your nationality?

I don't live in Pattaya actually, I live somewhere else in Chon Buri, but prefer Jomtien Immigration for a visit.

My current residence does not change. I am Australian.

May I ask your Nationality, and how long from when you sent in the passport did the new one arrive at your door?

Hi, sorry are we still talking about transferring the stamp? I think that one should finish in the same day. I have not done it yet. maybe next week.
