BANGKOK (Reuters) - Domestic car sales in Thailand slumped 21.3% in January to 55,208 vehicles from a year earlier, snapping two months of gains, hurt by a new wave of coronavirus infections late last year, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) said on Thursday.

The virus outbreak emerged in the middle of December, when car sales rose for a second month, up 11.3% year-on-year.

A panelbeater, spray painters and repossessors dream! How many of those will require repairs in the near future!

That is going to be you and me both on that one.

Am I the only one who is consistently skeptical of the "official numbers" that continue to be put out? I would guess it is closer to 30%. Who knows how these figures are being doctored?

The reality is that millions are out of work, government assistance is somewhere between non-existent and super stingy, and there is no end in sight for the catastrophic crash of the tourism market, which many say was 20% of the total economy, when all ancillary businesses are taken into account. And the recent crash of the domestic tourism market could have been largely avoided, had Prayuth and Anutin being "on the job", and Samut was locked down, as it should have, and could have been, the day of the outbreak. It was a massive failure. In many other countries, the PM would profusely apologized to the nation, and would have already resigned.

The no confidence grilling he is currently enduring is richly deserved. Though it likely will not result in any changes. Hopefully at least Anutin and Pipat will be ousted.
