Trade between Denmark and Thailand took off over 163 years ago

The Danish Embassy in Bangkok takes us back in time with this historical fact about Denmark – Thailand trading relations.

 

This week’s ‘DID YOU KNOW’ from the embassy reads:

 

“DID YOU KNOW…?


Did you know that trade between Denmark and Thailand really took off after the Friendship, Trade, and Navigation treaty was signed in 1858?


After the treaty, trade rapidly increased along the sea routes and by 1910 Denmark rated 6th in volume of imports to Siam and 3rd in exports.

 

A remarkable level of trade between the two countries considering the large difference in size as well as the distances involved.
