Japanese Tourist Found Dead in Phuket Hotel Room, Leaves Farewell Note
A Japanese tourist was found dead on October 10, in his hotel room in Phuket after leaving a heartfelt farewell note expressing confusion and illness. The tragic discovery was made by a housekeeper who was shocked by the scene. At 12:30 Pol. Lt. Visanu Chalak, an investigator with the Sakhu Police Station, received a report from the station’s emergency call centre about the death of a foreign tourist in a hotel room in Moo 5, Sakhu Subdistrict, Phuket. The incident was immediately reported to Pol. Col. Salan Santisasanakul, Chief of Sakhu Police Station. Medical staff from Vachira Phuket Hospital, along with rescue teams and local foundation officials, were called to the scene. The housekeeper explained that she had knocked on the door but received no response. Using a spare key, she entered the room to clean and was horrified to discover the tourist had hanged himself. Initial investigations were conducted by the forensic team from Vachira Phuket Hospital. Police found no signs of a struggle in the room, but they recovered a note written in Japanese, in which the deceased expressed feelings of loneliness, depression, and mentioned several prior suicide attempts. The note has been kept as evidence. The victim was identified as 45-year-old Mr. Masaru, a Japanese tourist who had been staying alone. Forensic doctors estimated that he had been dead for approximately 6 to 8 hours before being found. The body has been transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further examination. The Japanese embassy in Thailand has been notified, and arrangements are being made to inform the family and arrange repatriation of the body. If you or anyone you know is in emotional distress, please contact the Samaritans of Thailand 24-hour hotline: 02 713 6791 (English), 02 713 6793 (Thai) or the Thai Mental Health Hotline at 1323 (Thai). Please also contact your friends or relatives at this time if you have feelings of loneliness, stress or depression. Seek help. -- 2024-10-11 -

Should A Woman Be Allowed to hold the office of President of the USA?
I think it's more a factor we haven't had a good woman candidate yet. The bigger problem is how our system selects candidates. The primaries force candidates favor the extremes resulting in Trump or Kamala types instead of more middle of the road types. I don't see it improving any time soon. Sadly Kamala might actually be elected and the first woman president. She will be there solely for her gender and skin tone selected by the DEM party. She never won a single primary back in 2020 and there wasn't one this time as Biden won it and then handed off to her. But the machine has been so effective in demonizing Trump she could win. -

Kamala Harris: Balancing Loyalty and Change in Her Bid for the Presidency
She's a common sense, experienced negotiator who will tackle a situation armed with input from her qualified staff. On the other hand, Trump is a one-man-band who shoots from the hip and frequently misses, threatens, divides and bullies. The choice is a no-brainer. -

BMTA Tightens Safety Checks on 809 NGV Buses to Ensure Public Confidence
The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) has ramped up safety inspections on its fleet of 809 NGV-powered buses, aiming to boost public confidence in the safety of public transportation. Deputy Minister of Transport Surapong Piyachote has emphasised the importance of stringent safety standards and ensuring that all buses meet strict operational requirements. BMTA Director Kittikarn Jomduang Jaruwanpolkun confirmed that the fleet consists of 486 blue low-floor air-conditioned NGV buses and 323 orange Euro-II air-conditioned NGV buses. Safety measures have been put in place to mitigate the risk of fire incidents on the buses. The safety protocol includes three key components: 1. Regular Vehicle Inspections: All buses undergo routine inspections to ensure they meet safety standards before entering service. Maintenance checks focus on essential equipment such as fire extinguishers, emergency doors, and window hammers, as well as the condition and expiration dates of gas tanks. 2. Emergency Response Training: BMTA staff, including bus drivers and conductors, are regularly trained on how to respond to emergencies, particularly fire outbreaks. Training covers assisting passengers during incidents, safely evacuating the bus, using fire extinguishers and window hammers correctly, and coordinating with emergency services such as hospitals and rescue teams. 3. Compensation for Victims: In cases of injury or death, BMTA has procedures in place for compensating victims, supported by motor vehicle accident insurance and protection under Thailand’s Road Accident Victim Protection Act. BMTA has also produced training videos simulating fire emergencies to educate staff, as well as public information videos demonstrating the use of safety equipment. These initiatives are designed to enhance passenger confidence in the public transport system. Pictures courtesy of BMTA. -- 2024-10-11 -
