Popular Post Spellforce
Yesterday I noticed that many french products, especialy "charcuterie" (saucisson, andouillettes etc...), are around 20% more expensive. Those new prices have been changed 4 days ago I think. What happened ? Is it temporary? For instance: 1 1

chickenslegs
Casino products were always good value in Big C. I assume that was due to some kind of lower import duty arrangement when Big C and Carrefour were partners. I have also noticed the rise in prices. Maybe the import duties have increased. 1

Pilotman
Our weekly shop in Big C is about the same each time, plus or minus a few items. The total cost of our shop has risen by 18% to 20%, per shop, in each of the last 6 weeks.

Many especially Farang things had a big price increase. For instance the baguette ????. I remember it cost a bit more than 20 Baht some years ago. A week ago it was 35 Baht if I remember correctly. 2

Popular Post tomazbodner
Shipping fees sharply increased as of late. Is it possible that increased costs or maybe lower quantities (due to lack of foreigners in Thailand) pushing shipping costs even higher, are affecting the prices? Just speculating, I'm not in the know. That said, it was always Central Food Hall or Villa Market for me when searching for imported stuff. Not BigC.

And still TESCO not LOTUS'S In name only - totally different management (they even keep track of stock now and deliver as was done years ago - freezer trucks - rather the the motorcycles without ability to keep frozen items cool of recent years). So far Lotus experience has been positive since change of management with them having at least 90% of items - it used to be about 70% if you were lucky. But living in Bangkok use delivery service and have not set foot in a Big C for many moons.

The partnership between Big C and Carrefour ended a decade ago, or even longer. Casino is the main competitor of Carrefour is France, and the partnership between Casino and Big C also ended several years ago. I also noticed the sharp increase over the past few weeks, and I can only think it is because of the unlimited greed of the Thaibev guy, who owns it now. Since he took over a few years ago, it has gone only one direction, and that is down ( I don't mean the prices) 6 1

You are quite correct, but it doesn't seem that long ago. There is a saying that goes "When we are young the days go quickly but the years go slowly. When we get old the days go slowly, but the years go quickly." Edit to add: Couldn't agree more about Thaibev and the other monopoly players here. Popular Post sherwood
Never mind. When CPF has zero competition in Thailand, that will be the time to give up your Western diet and eat frogs, if you can get them. I do find that Tesco has reduced the price of many items lately and I do check the use by date. I live in the sticks and a trip to Marko (CPF) is like a trip to Disneyland

Popular Post Patong2021
Yes, the cost of imported French products has increased. Same for other EU imports. 2 reasons; 1- The EU wholesale costs have increased. it is all over the EU news for the past year, the many price increases. 2- Cost of transport cargo has increased very much. When supply chains are disrupted, food processors shut down, workers off work, there is cost impact. Here is an explanation. When the old stock is finished the new higher cost stock comes to the shop. stock https://ilostat.ilo.org/covid-19-is-driving-up-food-prices-all-over-the-world/
