ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) - U.S. and Chinese officials concluded on Friday what Washington called "tough and direct" talks in Alaska, which laid bare the depth of tensions between the world's two largest economies at the outset of the Biden administration.

Philippines posts record daily COVID-19 cases, approves Russian vaccine

MANILA (Reuters) - The Philippines recorded 7,103 new coronavirus cases on Friday, a record daily increase in infections, as authorities tightened coronavirus curbs in the capital and approved Russia's Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use.

PHUKET: A 62-year-old man was found drowned in a fish-breeding pond near his house in Pa Khlok last night (Mar 18). Police are investigating the man’s death, though slip marks in the mud beside the pond suggest that the man had slipped and fell into the water.

DANDONG, China/OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday criticized China for blocking access to the trial of Michael Spavor, a Canadian detained by Beijing since late 2018 on spying charges, a case that is part of a wider diplomatic spat between Washington and Beijing.

(Reuters) - The U.S. government on Friday updated its COVID-19 mitigation guidance, halving the acceptable distance between students who are wearing masks to at least three feet (0.91 m) from at least six feet, potentially easing the path for schools that have struggled to reopen under previous guidelines.

Petroecuador to reprogram oil deliveries to Thailand's PTT in coming days, CEO says

Patong sanitation chief disses claim wastewater causing algae bloom

PHUKET: The chief of the Patong Municipality Sanitation Division has dismissed the notion that wastewater flowing into the bay is in any way contributing to the macro algae bloom along the Patong beachfront that has lead to masses of red sea urchins being stranded washed ashore.

MELBOURNE (Reuters) - Australia's east coast was smashed by heavy rains on Saturday, sparking dangerous flash flooding that forced the evacuation of multiple regions as the fast-moving waters unmoored houses, engulfed roads, stranded towns and cut power lines.
