Uk bans all International travel from Monday 29th March.... Except for.....

I don't get this. If you're going to Thailand permanently and have family there, such as wife/kid, surely that would not be classed as a holiday... i.e. you will not be returning.

Can't see that anything has changed, just some reinforcement of the rules.  Simple fact is that is you live in Thailand and are in the UK for a visit you can go home.  If you live in the UK you better

Since it unlikely I - and everyone else - cannot get back into Thailand without quarantine silliness until October at the earliest, I think banning all travel until September makes little difference t

  • Would come under "To leave if you’re in the UK on a temporary basis/are not resident "

All this is too much too late. INWARD travel should have been throttled 12 months ago. I get they're trying to prevent a repeat of last year and it'll likely be relaxed after summer, but surely that list is not complete as there are other reasons for travel... such as wanting to disappear forever.

I just arrived, based on your comment. I can tell you this, those complaining about 14 days quarantine should know, as I sit in my hotel room right now I am feeling good ????

A lot of nonsense about residency.  The about paragraph states "To leave if you’re in the UK on a temporary basis/are not resident" , I think it is safe to assume the "/" means "or" so if you live in Cambodia, Thailand or anywhere else and are temporarily in the UK you can go home.

Spot on, "temporary basis" and "not resident" are 2 separate issues. Many UK residents can be out of the country for a variety of reasons and would be allowed to leave if they had been for a visit.

You are right about the NHS, irrelevant. Residency is a complicated issue and although there are guidelines it is in fact a judgement. There was a case some years back where someone who had been out of the country for 3 years was judged to have been resident during that time. Not something the police could make a judgement on.

I suspect that as far as this law is concerned "not resident" is aimed at foreign nationals.

Is it to benefit the UK or the other countries of the world? Just wondering.

Not mentioned so far but if you choose to flaunt the new law, the fine is £5000

As I depart the UK and tossing a coin to determine my residency status, I will leave them a forwarding address in Thailand for the summons.
